Swann Died in Ala., March 14. Mrs. Matilda G. Swann, widow of W. W. Swann, died Saturday morning March 14, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. F. Mahone, at Loachapoka, Ala. She had been in feeble health for some time, but, was only confined to her bed since December 29. She was a devoted Christian. All who knew her loved her sweet disposition. She united with the church in her girlhood. She was married in 1867 and moved her church letter to Smyrna Church in 1870. She tented at Smyrna every year but two, there was sickness in her family which prevented her from attending. She organized a ladies prayer meeting about 30 years ago and it was a great pleasure to her to be there and work. She was devoted to the camp meetings, but was unable to attend last year, but, instead, wrote letters to the ladies in her prayer meeting. She will be missed very much. In her affliction she suffered no pain. She often said she was ready and only waiting for the Lord’s will to be done. She had all her children to come, and talked to each one, telling them how to wind up her business and made her own plans as to how she wanted to be put away. She wanted to be buried at home, and when she fell asleep there was not a struggle. She asked her children not to grieve for her, that she was just going to rest. She leaves three sisters and seven children, E. W. Swann of Atlanta, J. H. Swann of Conyers, C. D. Swann of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. J. F. Mahone of Loachapoka, Ala., Mrs. A. B. Turner of Walnut Grove, Ala., and R. A. Swann of Savannah, and several grand children. Mrs. Swann was in her 77th year. Up until she got feeble, she spent most of her time at her old home near Smyrna, with her son, Henry. Now there will be no more looking and waiting for her in the old home: but, dear ones, she has only gone on before. Additional Comments: This obit says that Mrs. Swann leaves seven children, but only six are mentioned.
