(She lived in Ellaville but spent over a year at the end of her life at Magnolia Manor in Americus.) She was the daughter of Jack Cook. She married Henry Jackson Dyess, the son of George Christopher and Margaret Peters Dyess of LaCrosse in Schley County. The marriage occurred on Sept. 22, 1923 in Schley County. Henry was born August 29, 1879 in Georgia, died February 11, 1926 in Schley County. Lucy was Henry's second wife. He first married Minnie Lucia English who died. The following obituary appeared in the Americus Times-Recorder on Saturday, March 4, 1978: MRS. LUCY DYESS ELLAVILLE, Ga.--The funeral service for Mrs. Lucy Dyess, 81, of Ellaville, who died Friday at the Americus and Sumter County Hospital, were planned at 3:30 p.m. today from Ellaville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Cawthon officiating. Interment was in Ellaville Cemetery. A native of Macon County, Mrs. Dyess had resided most of her life in Schley County. For the last 15 months she had lived at Magnolia Manor in Americus. She was a retired nurse and a member of Ellaville United Methodist Church. Survivors include a step-daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Dyess, Columbus; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Cook, Americus; two step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
