Hill for The History of Schley County compiled by The Schley County Preservation Society. Robert Elbert Hill(b.July 27, 1874, d. June 30, 1937) was son of Hamp Hill: married Viola Turner(b. November 15, 1874, d. September 15, 1942). They moved to Schley County, Ellaville, Georgia from near Butler, Georgia, Taylor County to engage in the livery business with A. J.(Bud) Hill. Three children were born of this marriage; Otis Clyde, Morris Crawford, and Marguerite. The two sons and their father farmed, raised livestock, and operated a small mercantile store. Later they were in an independent telephone business. R.E., with three partners, namely Claude Johnson, Cull Battle, and Roger Williams, built and operated a large cotton warehouse, now known as "Planter's Warehouse." R.E. served on the City Council for 38 yrs. Otis Clyde, (b.1892, d. 1964), m. Dorothy Cheney(b. 1896 d. 1990) in 1916. A son, Robert Byron, (b. 1918) m. Rheba Charline Callaway(b. 1926) of Point, Texas in 1946. Three children were born of this marriage: Robert Byron, Jr.(b.1947), Virginia Marguerite(b. 1951) m. Harold Stephen Austin(b. 1949) in 1973. Their daughter, Allison Hill(b. 1980) in Americus, Georgia, Sumter County. Charline Cheney(b.1956) m. Howard Andrew Reinhart(b. 1954) in 1979 from Thomas County. Morris Crawford(b. 1896, d.1954), m. Mervin Johnson(b. 1899, d. 1976). Morris was a Sgt. with the 157 SWR-BRI G during World War I and drove an ambulance in France. They had two children: Robert Johnson(b. 1933), m. Peggy Jean Finch(b. 1931, d. 1966). Robert Johnson graduated from University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He has been teaching in this field at the Univ. of Ga. for 18 years. He and had a son, Bret Hickman, who died at childbirth. Four months later Peggy died of brain tumor. Morris and Mervin's other child, a daughter, Jane(b. 1925) m. Paul Lewis of Cumberland, Md. To this marriage were born five children: Christopher, Sandra, Joe, and twins Keith and Kevin. Jane graduated from Crawford W. Long Nursing School as a registered nurse. Marguerite(b. 1909, d. 1974), m. Paul Fitzgerald Coffin(b. 1909, d. 1982) of Richland, Georgia. No children.
