He was married Dec. 10, 1874 to Mary Ammons Lightner, and we celebrated our 55th anniversary on Dec. 10, 1929 before he died March 25, 1930. He was in his 77th year when he passed away. We reared ten children, seven boys and three girls, all of whom are living. He joined the church at Philippi, in the Uppatoie Association, Sept. 6 , 1888 and was baptized by Elder Sims. He was clerk of the association for a number of years and was Deacon from May 31 1900 until he was ordained to preach, Oct 28, 1902. He served four churches, and one year five until 1928; spending a little over 25 years in the ministry. He served the following churches: Philippi, County Line, Mr. Nebo, Liberty, Mt, Zion, Good Hope, and one at Andersonville, Ga. He was a farmer until he was elected clerk of the superior court at Ellaville in 1891, in which office he served for 14 years. During the last five years of his life, he suffered three light strokes of paralysis and was in declining health all the while. Philippi Church Minutes Sept 6th 1888 After preaching by Eld Sims: the church of Christ at Phillippi met in conference. 1st Opened the door of the church when J.M.
