Hampton was one of 14 children born to this marriage. Hampton’s grandparents were Elisha and Elizabeth (Fleke) Stevens and Richardson Roundtree it is believed Richardson’s wife name was Mildred Hampton died July 25, 1876 while visiting his daughter Elmina and her husband Milton Buchanan Roberts in Harris County, GA. Hampton married Attalissa Sparks, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Wilkerson/Wilkinson) Sparks on January 19, 1829 in South Carolina. Attalissa was born on June 17, 1810 in South Carolina. She died in Terrell County, GA on June 29, 1873 Hampton was one of the original members of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Schley County, GA. Hampton and Attalissa Sparks Stevens are buried at Prospect Methodist Church Cemetery, Shellman, Randolph County, GA. Their son Monroe along with Monroe’s family are also buried there. Hampton and Attalissa had a large family, the children are as follows • Angeliana Isabelle Stevens b. 22 November 1829 married William Pinckney Hatchett • Jasper Hampton Stevens b. 07 June 1831 married Cordelia Hurt • Elmina Elizabeth Stevens b. 02 February 1833 married Milton Buchanan Roberts • Martha Ann Stevens b. 01 January 1835 married George Washington Coe Munro • Putnam Sparks Stevens b. 01 September 1836 married Louisa Josephine Hurt • Mary Attalisa Stevens b. 29 June 1838 married John Young • Monroe Smith Stevens b. 09 May 1840 married Mary Frances McKinney • Morgan Norman Stevens b. 21 March 1842 d. 04 May 1862 in Richmond VA • Elvira Amanda Stevens b. 18 March 1844 married James R. McMichael • Newton Clark Stevens b. 18 March 1846 married 1st Annie West, 2nd Mary Anna Landry • Milton Stevens b. 03 April 1848 d. 22 July 1848 • Anna Parmely Stevens b. 29 September 1849 married William Wooten • Hampton Stevens, Jr. b. 31 August 1853 married 1st Adaline A. Baker 2nd Mary Ella (Robinson) Nicholson Hampton and Attalissa lived in Marion County but also had a home in Putnam, GA which was right at the county line of Marion and Schley County. They moved to Marion County around 1848. He had land holdings in Terrell and Randolph County also. Many of Hampton’s and Attalissa descendents have played an important roll in Marion and Schley Counties through out the years even into this generation.
