Carter Family Cemetery


Location: The Carter Family Cemetery is located south of
Ellaville, Schley County Georgia on GA Hwy 153 south.  It
is between Ellaville and Preston, GA.

Wiley Carter, one of the original settlers of South West
Georgia was born in Warren County, Georgia, son of James
Carter, Jr., Eleanor Duckworth, and grandson of James
Carter, Sr., moved to Georgia from Bertie County, North
Carolina prior to 1787.  

Wiley married Ann Ansley in 1821
and after her death married Sarah Ross.  He had five
sons: Walker, Jesse, Sterling, Calvin, Wiley; and seven
daughters, Louise, Ann, Armanda, Caroline, Euphrasia,
Julia and Jane. (Relative of President Jimmy Carter)
