SCHLEY COUNTY, GA - CHURCH Ebenezer Baptist Church Minutes Jul-Dec 1896 ***************** Copyright. Caskey's. I'm pretty sure he would be the only one who has any idea of what he wrote. This situation is somewhat amplified by the fact that he wrote exclusively with a very blunt pencil. The clerk was often times chosen for his ability to read and write. Many of the congregation could not read or write. The ability to read and write, frequently was based upon statement of such fact by the individual possessing those skills. There seem to be varying degrees of that ability. Clerk Caskey's minutes are challenging, to say the least. I hope that I am presenting a fair and accurate representation of what I am seeing.
