Battel Mod. 1st Opened a dore for the reception of members and recd none.. 2nd Ref. cald for & none presented. 3rd A request being made for the ministerial ade of Bro. Peter Stewart to ade in the Constitution of a Church nears the (unreadable) & it was granted. 4th On motion it was agreed to take Bro. Gainuses gift into Consideration when it was decided that his gift was not a preaching gift & on motion the Bretheren Lee & Yelverton was appointed to notify Bro. Gainus of the decision of the Church. 5th Bro. Yelverton applied for a letter for Sister Dicy Yelverton which was granted. W.J.G. Barry, C. Clk. Sat. August the 10th day 1839 The Church met in Conference Bro. Battle Mod. 1st Opened her dore for the reception of members and none came forward. 2nd Refferences being cald for none presented. On motion the Church agreed to continue until next Conference. 3rd On motion we were to point out to our Sister at Ramah a Stumblin Block that is in our way, viz one of her members Carrying a petition & assinging (assigning?) the same which we cannot view but ben flirting with our Constitutional and in the rights the resolutions of the church for which purpose we have appointed the following Bretheren to beare our letter viz Barry & Lee as Correspondance. W.J.G. Barry, C.Clk. Phillippi Saturday Sept. 7th 1839 The Church met in Conference Bro. Battle Mod. 1st Opened her dore for the reception of members and received none. 2nd Cald for Corresponding messengers from Sister Churches and received following Bretheren from Good hope. J. Cald???d??nd, Bro. Linnon(?) and from Sardis Bro. A. Chapman and from Mount Zion Bro. Mitchell, all as Corresponding Bretheren. 3rd Caled for References and one was presented to wit a query and on motion agreed to it ??rased (smudge). Phillippi Sunday Sept. 8th 1839 The Church met in Conference Bro. Battle mod. 1st And after the Refferences being rec'd the Church proced to bisness to with the query taken up. 2nd Ammendment proposed viz what is the duty of this Church towards a Sister Church who holds members in disorder and takes no Coniziance thereof. Answer we believe to be our duty to admonish our sister to her duty. 3rd On motion agreed to appoint Corresponding messengers to following Churches. Good hope, Mount Zion and Sardis. G. Yelverton and J. Lee to good hope and to Sardis J. Giles & P.Stewart and B. Lancaster and Trawick and Lee & Yelverton to Mount Zion. 4th On motion agreed to Continue the present Conference to a futer period when it was agreed to set apart Mondy weake wich will be the sixteenth of the present month for the purpose of finishing the bisness now before the Church to wit appointing dellagates and every other bisness that may come before her. Don by order of the Church in Conference. W.J.G. Barry, C. Clk. Phillippi Monday Sept. 16th 1839 According to a previos appointment the Church met in Conference Bro. Battel Moderator. 1st On motion agreed to apoint Bro. P. Stewart Clerk protem for the day. 2nd On motion agreed to perfer a Charge against Bro. Barry for abruptly leaving his seat as Clerk and apparently in a passion, on motion agreed to take up the Charge against brother Barry. On motion agreed to continue it untill the conclusion of the conference. 3rd On motion agreed to prefer a charge against Bro. Ganius for puting in his money & shooting for beef, on motion took up the above charge, on motion of the fellowship of the Church was tr?ite & he was Excommunicated. 4th A Charge brought by Bro. Lee against Bro. Barry for unjustly implicating him in our last Conference and Bro. Barry made sattisfaction. 5th On motion we received and took up sade Charge and Bro. Barry made sattisfaction. 6th On motion agreed to go into the Choice of Delegates to the Association when Bro. Stewart & Lee & Yelverton was chosen. 7th Agreed to send one Dollar for minutes & two Dollars to pay the Clerk John W. Turner for former services. 8th Whereas we lerne that Daniel Cremer has united by letter purporting to be from us to a Church in Alabama resolved that we request the Association to publish him in minutes. Oct. 12th 1839 The Church met in Conference Bro Battel Mod. 1st Opened her doore for the reception of members and none came forward. 2nd The association letter cald for & read & received. 3rd Cald for Contribution for minutes & received three Dollars. William J.G. Barry, C. Clk. Phillippi Sat. November the 9th day 1839 The Church met in Conference Bro. Battel Mod. 1st Opened a dore for the Reception of members and none came forward. 2nd Cald for Referances and none Presented. 3rd On motion the Church agreed to set apart the friday before her next meeting to make choice of minister to supply her the insuing year. 4th Sister Nancy Handcock aplide for a letter of dismission and it was granted and likewise Bro. Giles aplide for letter of dismission for him and wife and they was granted. 5th On motion agreed to appoint Corresponding Bretheren Bro. Lancaster & Traywick to Ramah, likewise Bro. Yelverton & Lee to good hope & Yelverton & Lee & Traywick to Sardis & P. Stewart & Lancaster & Barry to Mount Zion. 6th On motion the Church agreed to Receive Sister Tempy Traywick on the Confession of her fath & she was received into full fellowship. William J.G. Barry, C.Clk. Friday Decm 6 1839 The Church met in Conference Bro. Yelverton Mod. 1st Opened her doore for the reception of members & none rec'd. 2nd Cald for references & one presented relative to the Cohice of a preacher and continued untill futer period of the present Conference. 3rd The reference relative to the application of Bro. Peter Stewart application for a letter of dismission & ws taken up & acted on & the Church granted Bro. Stewart a letter of dismission. 4th Took the Referance up relative to the Choice of a Preacher & Bro. Battel was unanimously Chosen by the Church & Congration(Congregation?). William J.G. Bary, C. Philippi Saturday February 8th Day 1840. Church meett in Conference Brother Stewart moderator. 1st Open a dour for the Reception of members and 2nd Received Brother Alexander (unreadable) Willson by Letter. 3rd Called for References and one Presented Rellif (relative?) to 4th Brother Barry a plying for a Letter of Dismission and ?legected to in Concequence of Riports Moves and Seams that the Church Prefer a Charge against Brethern Busavy (or Busary or maybe Barrysince he seems to have vanished as clerk) for Disorder in Confernece. Took up the Charges against him and 5th Excumicated Him and the apply?? for a Letter of Dismision for his wife and it was granted. J. Lee, C.C., Protem Philipi March the 7 Day 1840 Met in Conference Brother Batle moderator. 1 first Open a Dour for the Receptions of members and none came forward Joshua Lee, C.C. 2nd Sister Anna Marah (Maria?) Johnson applyes for a Letter of Dismission was obgected to by Brother Yelverton. Agreed to lay it over untell next Conference Aperl the Eleventh. J. Lee, C.C. Protem Philipi Aperl the Eleventh 1840 Item first Meet in Conference and Brother Battle moderator. Open d Dour for the Reception of members and none came forward. Joshua Lee C.C. Item 2 Caled for Reference and one Presented elative to Sister Anna Mariah Johnson applying for a Letter of Dismision and was granted also Sister Lucy Johnston applyes for a Letter of Dismission which was granted. Item 3 A Requst made By our Sister Mauent geted Church the time of our metting and agreed to Chang from The Second Sunday to furst Sunday in Each month and Saturday before. Moderator. first open a Door for the reception of members and Received none. 2 Went into the Choices of the Deligates to the Association and Bretheren G. Yelverton and J. Lee and Brother Lancaster Case of failure. Agreed to send one Dollar & fifty cents for Minutes. Joshua Lee, C. Cl. 3 Augusts 2nd 1840 Meet in Conference Brother Battle Moderator. On motion agreed to potetion For the next Association to be held Phillippi Marin (Marion?). An the petition of Union Church through Brother Crary (McCrary?) for the helps on motion granted Her Request When the following Bretheren was appointed J.Lee, G. Yelverton and W. Trawick were apointed. Joshua Lee, Clk. September the 5 Day 1840 Mett In Conference Brother Battle Moderator. Opend Dawer for the reception of members and received none. Call for References and one Presented to writ a Letter to the association. Leter was Received. Joshua Lee, Clk. October the 3 day 1840 Item Philippi meet In Confrence Brother Battle Moderator. First opend Daur for the Reception of Members and Recived Brother Beary by Concesion (confession?) also Recived Sister Beary by Leter. Moved and Scond that Church go into the Cais of a Clerk at our next Conference. Joshua Lee, Clk. October the 31 Day 1840 Item 1 Meet In Conference Brother Yelverton moderator. First open a Daur for the Reception of Members and Recived non. Call for References and one Presented. We Reconsider Sa Much of our Last minut as going in to the Chois of a Clerk and Brother Lee at it us Cints(?). Item 2 movd & Second that we go in to the Chois of a Preacher on Friday Fief (?) on our Conference To Supply us the next year. Johua Lee, Clk. Philippi Saturday the 5 day of December 1840 The Church met in Conference. 1st Opened a Door for the Reception of members and Received non. took up the Reference Respecting going into the Caisice of a Supply When Brother Battle was unanimously Chosen. on motion a agreed To Write to Sister at Sardis for the ministeral gift of Brother Battle To Supply us the Ensuing Year. Sister Barry applyes for a Letter of Dismision which was granted. the Church moved and Scon that the Church prefer a Charg against Brother Barry (unreadable) of another in the manner in which he did and for Charging of Same (?) in the manner he did and for Clandistinned Leaving the County and State. Barry Disiring Restoration. on motion agreed to Write to Inform him the Church Was not Satisfied. on motion appointed the Fowling Brethren to Cite Brother Lancaster to next Conference for non Attendances. While Brother Joshua Lee's creative and inconsistent spelling was a challenge, it was definitely taxing my abilities to decipher the minutes. Welcome back Bro. Stewart! There were no May or June minutes. end # 16 Phillippi July 2nd 1842 The Church Met in Conference Brother (named omitted) Moderator. 1st Opened a Door for the Reception of members & received none. 2nd Sisiter Hester White applied for a letter of Dissmission which was granted. 3rd On motion agreed to Choose Delegates to the Association & Bretheren Stewart & Yelverton were Chosen. 4th Agreed to Send two Dollars for minutes. Georgia Marion County 1842 Phillippi October 1st 1842 The Church Met in Conference Brother Battle Moderator. 1st Opened a Door for the reception of Members & received Sister Nancy Lee by Experience. 2nd A Black Sister Applied for a letter of Dismission which was Granted. Sisters Nancy Heath , Malinda Heath & Sarah Heath applied for letters all of which was Granted. 3rd A Charge Brought against brother Jack & Sister Lotty for harbouring runaway negroes--taken up & laid over until next Conference. J. Lee, C.Clk. protem Phillippi Oct 28th received Sister Mary Parker by letter. Phillippi Saturday Nov. 5th 1842 The Church Met in Conference Brother Battle Moderator. 1st Opened a Door for the reception of members and received none. 2nd Took up the reference respecting Brother Jack & Sister Lotty. The case of Brother Jack was continued. The Bretheren Yelverton, Wilson & Stewart to talk to him to try to get Satisfaction. Sister Lotty Examined & gave Satisfaction. 3rd On motion agreed to go into the Choice of Supply for the next ensuing (year) on friday before our next conference. 4th On motion agreed to exonerate Brother Stewart from Serving on the committee to attend to reports & other matters of Dealing. Peter Stewart, C. Clk. Phillippi friday December 2nd 1842 The Church met in Conference Bro. Stewart Moderator. 1st Opened a Door fro the reception of members & received none. 2nd Took up the reference relative to the choice of a supply for the next ensuing year & Brother Battle was unanimously chosen by the Church & congregation. The Bretheren Yelverton & Lee to bear a letter to Sardis requesting the ministerial gift of brother Battle. 3rd On motion agreed that Brother Lanier keep the key of the meeting house. Phillippi December 3rd 1842 The Church Met in conference Brother Battle Moderator. 1st Opened a Door for the reception of members & received none. 2nd Took up the reference relative to Brother Jack & the committee reported not Satisfied. On motion prefered a charge against him for implicating Brother Yelverton.
