A little research revealed that this A.C. Cleveland was Absalom Carter Cleveland (11-6-1811 to 6-22-1853), son of William & Rhoda Cleveland. He is burried at Usrey Family Cemetery a few miles west of Phillippi on the south shoulder of GA 240. Here is his family on the 1850 census. 1850 Marion Division 57 11 Sept. 1850 239/239 Absalom C. West in Marion Co. on Dec. 15, 1853. She is listed as the wife of a soldier in service on the 1862 Schley Co. Salt list. No mention after that. Two of their children James W. and Lucinda W. are buried at Usry Cemetery as well, near Col. A.C. Cleveland. Sons Augustus C. and William A.D. Cleveland both enlisted in the Schley Guards on May 11, 1861. Augustus appears last on the roll August 31, 1862 and was presumed killed. William A.D. Cleveland last appears on the roster of Co. D 29th Batt'n Ga Cavalry as a 1st Lt. on January 21, 1865. His fate is unknown to me. I would like to know more about this family, particularly the fate of the two boys in the Army and would welcome any additional information.) end # 23 Phillippi January 31st 1846 The Church in Conference brother Hood Moderator. 1st Opened a door for the reception of members and received none.
