There are two more minutes entries for 1880, neither of which can be read as the page was photographed with a piece of note paper covering those two entries and it can be seen where it was actually attached to the page with a straight pin. The writing on the piece of note paper is of some interest and I will attempt to present it as written below. Phillip Linear Daniel B. Norton Recorded March 29, 1880 John N. Channey Clerk (this would have been John N. Cheney, Schley Co. Superior Court Clerk at the time) ________________________________________________________________________________ _______ Henry L. Allison Henry Waddill 10 acres South East corner lot 107 3rd Dis (Transcriber Note: I did some checking using a Schley County land lot map and a GA DOT map for Schley County and I am convinced that this location in the southeast corner of lot 107 in the 3rd District of Schley Co. is the current location of the remains of Phillip church and it's cemetery. This begs to ask the question about the names on the note paper, Phillip Linear was an early member of the church as was the Allison family. What is the connection of Daniel B. Norton and Henry Waddill?) (Transcriber's note: A couple of observations and some speculation about the March 3rd minutes. I have done a fair amount of research on this portion of the Woodall family. Jasper Newton Woodall and most of his family left Schley Co. for Kissimmee, FL sometime between 1883 and 1893. He may have already have been in Florida when this took place and possibly that could explain the letter citing him to the next conference. Also, one has to wonder how a poor farmer of northern Schley county becomes addicted to morphine, if indeed he was. Morphine was a pain-killer in those days and perhaps he became addicted as a result of his war wounds. Who knows! Below my notes on his FL pension application and the family in the 1880 census.) I am somewhat familiar with the area around Phillippi and I have given some thought as to where these Baptisms may have taken place. The nearest water that I can think of that would be deep enough for a Baptist baptism (full emersion) would have to have been Hill's mill pond. Phillippi Road passes right next to the northern most end of the mill pond if one goes north on it from Phillippi church. It is fed by a creek, Coon Creek, I believe, but I don't believe it would be deep enough for a baptism. I would welcome information or further discussion on this item.) NOTES: (Notes by: Pat Lowe PatgenL@aol.com Benjamin F Ivey and Julia Virginia Allison She is grand dau of Henry L Allison, thru his son, SJ Allison. I don't know much about BF Ivey, except that he and Julia went to Oklahoma along with SJ & Delila Bruce and their other sibling James H Allison and Minnie Cory. (three couples and their kids) all went to Oklahoma " to claim their Indian land". That has been the story repeated in my family. Some say the Allisons were indians and others say the Woodalls. But I have never found any proof. The 3 couples went to Oklahoma by train in 1904--and during the trip there was a train wreck in which Delila was injured and lost a baby she was carrying. After they got to Oklahoma, she died and shortly afterwards two other children died. After that the father (SJ Allison, my great grandfather also died). Some in the family suggested that he killed the kids somehow by poison and himself also becauses he was despondent after his wife died. The older kids, Dolly, Elbert, James Frank, and John Henry were destitute..so neighbors took up a collection to send them back to Marion county GA where Delila Bruce's brother, Sam lived in Pine Knot district. There was also some speculation that James Henry Allison got some money due to the children from the train wreck settlement. I know they were back in Marion county in 1906 because my grandfather James Frank and also his sister Dolly Allison were both married in that year. But I have never found any real proof of this story--I do know that BF and Julia Ivey stayed out in Oklahoma, had a large family. And that their mother Dolly Woodall Allison was living with son BF and Julia in 1920 in Tulsa. She died in 1922 and is buried out there. James and his family eventually moved to California and our part of the family lost touch with them. Through prior agreement with the Baptist Historical Association at Mercer University, who granted permission for the reproduction of the microfilm and the online posting of these minutes, the posting was to be terminated at the end of 1900. Although the minutes continue into the early 1970's when the church was disbanded, it was agreed that this be the stopping point. I have enjoyed reading and transcribbing these minutes and hope that they might have been of some help and enjoyment to the readers. There will be future membership lists that I will post as well as the church's decorum.
