Document, Schley Co. Courthouse Written: April 5, 1858 (The following document is not the earliest found so far, but is interesting as the actual note signed by J.C. Albritton is included with the complaint. Note the date and location given for the note.) State of Georgia, Schley County To the Superior Court of said County. The petition of Josiah Davis showeth that John C. Albritton of said County is indebted to him in the sum of One Hundred and Thirty-Three 11/100 dollars, besides interest on a promissory note dated April 5th 1858 and due one day after date; which note, the said John C. Albritton refuses to pay. Wherefore your petitioner prays process may issue requiring the said John C. Albritton to be and appear at the next Superior Court for said county to answer your petitioner's complaint. C(Charles) B(ritton) Hudson, Plt's Atty Copy note sued on. $152.13 Pond Town April 5th 1858 One day after date I promise to pay to J. Davis & Sons or bearer One Hundred and Fifty-Two 13/100 dollars, value received, with interest from the first day of January last. Witness my hand and seal. Endorsed--Rec'd forty-three dollars, April 2nd 1860. Signed J.C. Albritton (L.S.) Schley Superior Court October Term 1866 Whereupon it is considered and adjudged by the Court, that the Plaintiff do recover of Defendant the sum of One Hundred and Thirty-Two dollars and Five cents for the principle debt and the sum of sixty-one dollars and ninety-nine cents for their interest from the 26th day of October (year obliterated) on principle sum. And the further sum of ___________ dollars and _______ cents for the costs in this behalf laid out and expended, and the defendant in mercy & c. Judgment signed this 26th day of October 1866. C.B.
