Clegg, former guardian GEORGIA SCHLEY COUNTY To the Ordinary for said county The petition of Harrison Cockrell, guardian for W.J. Payne, minor, would show that Thomas B. Clegg was duly and legally qualified guardian of William J. Payne and that said Thomas B. Clegg has been dismissed as such guardian, he having family to (torn, several lines illegible). Your petitioner would show (torn) said Thomas B. Clegg, former guardian of said William J. Payne is indebted to his said ward in a large amount. Wherefore your petitioner prays that the Ordinary do issue an order directly to the said Thomas B. Clegg, commanding and requiring him to be and appear at the Court of Ordinary for said county, June being a summer term of this said court of Ordinary for said county, then and there to settle with the (torn) petition as guardian as aforesaid for this amount (unreadable) this (unreadable) of your petitioner to (unreadable) W.J. W F 11 Oct 1888 S Henry W M 8 Aug 1891 S William J. Payne was born Aug 5, 1860 and died February 21, 1943 in Sumter Co. He is buried at Ellaville cemetery. Ella, his wife is buried there also. She died in 1902. The 1910 census finds him in Americus, working as a salesman at a hardware store, living with daughter Loca and son Henry. In the 1920 census he is still at the hardware store, has remarried to Angie Autry Singletary (22 Nov 1910) and daughter De Loca is still living there as well. Their residence was on Hampton St. Angie Payne is buried at Ellaville cemetery also.
