My grandparents were Thomas Pryor Barnes of Ellaville, Ga. born Feb. 28, 1839, died Oct. 12, 1905, and his wife Elizabeth Virginia Strange Barnes, born Jan. 20, 1844, died Jan. 28, 1883. Thomas Pryor Barnes (Tip) had a sister Obedia (Beedie) who married William W. Massey and after his death she married Vinson Pilcher. They also had a brother called Joe, of whom I have known little. Thomas Pryor Barnes and Elizabeth Virginia Strange Barnes (Kitty) had ten children: Tommie Curtis Barnes, b. July 6, 1863, died Jan. 17, 1930, Annie Bell Barnes, b. May 2, 1866, d. Mar. 26, 1899, Lula Barnes, b. 1867, d. April 8, 1897, Elizabeth Leggett Barnes, b. May 8, 1868, d. Apr. 15, 1916, Charner Britton Barnes, b. Mar 4, 1871, d. Oct. 14, 1945, Joseph E. Barnes, b. Mar. 18, 1877, d. Mar. 12, 1964, Otis Barnes, b. Mar. 18, 1877, d. Mar. 18, 1965 (Eunice and Otis were twins), Robert Barnes, b. 1879, died at age 16 and Ernest Strange Barnes, b. Feb. 12, 1881, died Sept. 26, 1950. I have always known and been told that the parents of Elizabeth Virginia Strange were Charner Bell Strange, born about 1809, died August 2, 1885, and Nancy Elizabeth Goodson Strange, born May 25, 1825 and died April 22, 1908. Charner Bell Strange’s father was Dr. Benjamin Alexander Strange of Sumter Co., Ga. Nancy Elizabeth Goodson had a brother Noel Goodson whom I knew. Noel Goodson was an uncle on both my Goodson line and on my Woods’ line, as he married my grandfather James Franklin Woods’ sister Eleanor Louisa (Lou) Woods. Aunt Lou was the area mid-wife (Ellaville-Bronwood, Ga. area) and I remember as a child going on trips to visit the sick with her. We lived next door to Aunt Lou and Uncle Noel for a time in Terrell County, Ga. Nancy Elizabeth Goodson also had a sister Martha Goodson whom I knew. She married E.B. Barrow of Ellaville, Ga. These statements were accurately made to the best of my memory and knowledge. Julia Lois Woods Parks (signed) Box 38A Butler, Ga. Notary: Mike H. Buckner Subscribed and sworn to before me on 10-16-82. My commission expires 3-17-86.
