The County Line Academy was granted a charter March 5, 1856 and the following board of trustees were appointed: W.W. Cheney, Henry Scarborough, Turner Dixon, Moses Tison, Lonzey Jones, R. Speer, Perry Peacock, William Wimbush and William D. Stewart. This school did not remain in Marion as that part of this county was ceded to Schley in 1857. From Galileo. ACTS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, PASSED IN MILLEDGEVILLE, AT A BI-ENNIAL SESSION, IN NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY & MARCH, 1855- '56. COMPILED, AND NOTES ADDED, By JOHN W. DUNCAN. 4. Sec. IV. And be it further enacted, That W. W. Chainey, Henry Scarborough, Turner Dixon, Moses Tison, Lonzey Jones, Ravan Speer, Perry Peacock, William Wimbush and William D. Stewart, and their successors in office, be, and they are hereby declared to be a body politic and corporate by the name and style of the Trustees of County Line Academy, in the county of Marion, and as such shall be capable and liable to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded in the several Courts of Law and Equity in this State, and shall be authorised to make such by-laws and regulations, and appoint such officers as may be necessary for the government of said Academy, Provided, such by-laws are not repugnant to the Constitution and laws of this State, and they may have and use a common seal, and have authority to remove from office any officer by them appointed, and that said Trustees shall be capable of accepting and being invested with all manner of property real and personal, all donations, gifts, grants, privileges and immunities, whatsoever, which may belong to said institution, or may hereafter be conveyed or transferred to them, and their successors in office, to have and to hold the same for the proper benefit and behoof of said Academy, and in case any vacancy shall happen by death, resignation or otherwise, of any one or more of said Trustees of said Academy, the survivors or a majority of them shall fill the same, in such manner as may be pointed out by the by-laws and regulations of said Trustees.
