STATE OF GEORGIA County of Schley In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary in and for the County of Schley, Mrs. E.M. Woodall, who being sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of Jacob T. Woodall, who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company A, of the 27th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers; that he enlisted in said service on or about the 1st of Sept. 1861, and was in the Virginia Army up to 26th July 1862. That while in the Army, he was on the 1st day of June 1862, that while in said Army he was taken sick seriously (though long before suffered with same disease) & sent to Hospital At Danville, Virginia & died at said hospital, of said disease on the 26th day of July 1862, of cronic (chronic) diarrhea. Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the Army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife on the 6th day of November 1856, and that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the 9th day of January 1837; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23rd day of December, 1890, and since said date she has not lived in any other state or locality. Deponent, as the widow of said deceased soldier husband, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approved December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the allowance granted by said Act. Affidavit for Three Witnesses STATE OF GEORGIA County of Schley In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary, in and for said County, witnesses Robert Patton, A.L. Jordan and Peter Stewart (each known to said Attesting Officer as truthful, reliable and reputable citizens), who severally say under oath, that, from their own personal knowledge, Mrs. E.M. Woodall, of the County of Schley, State of Georgia, is the widow of Jacob T. Woodall, who was a soldier in Company A of the Confederate States (or the Georgia State Troops) on or about the 1st day of Sept., 1861. That while in said service, or by reason of said service in the Army, he lost his life as follows: That while in said Army of Virginia he suffered for a long while with chronic diarrhea & for said disease was sent to the hospital at Danville, Virginia & from said disease & at said hospital, died 26th day of July 1862, State of Virginia. We further swear that Mrs. E.M. Woodall was the wife of said soldier during the service and that she has not intermarried (remarried?) since his death, and that she resides in Schley County of the State of Georgia. Robt. Application for Pension Due to a Deceased Pensioner (To be paid to the Ordinary for Expenses of Funeral and Last Illness) Georgia, Schley County Personally before me, the Ordinary of said County, comes Mrs. Ella Patton of said county, who, after being sworn, on oath says that she knew Mrs. E.M. Woodall of said County, and that said Pensioner was on the Pension Roll of said County at the time of her death, which occurred in Schley County, in this State, on the 15th day of January, 1925, and that a Pension of One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars was due pensioner and unpaid at the time of pensioner’s death, and that pensioner left now widow or dependent children surviving, and no estate of any value sufficient to pay funeral expenses, which amounted to the sum of $110.00, per sworn statements fully and completely ITEMIZED hereto attached. Mrs. Ella Patton (signed) Sworn to and subscribed before me this 12th day of March 1925. C.R. Tondee, Ordinary, Schley County. CERTIFICATE OF ORDINARY Georgia, Schley County I, C.R. Tondee, Ordinary of said County, do certify that I personally know Mrs. Ella Patton, who is a resident citizen of said County, and that said person is of truthful and trustworthy character, entitled to full faith and credit; that I also knew Mrs. E.M. Woodall while in life and that this was the same person whose name appears on the Pension Roll of Schley County, and was paid a pension of One Hundred & Twenty Five ($125.00) Dollars in said County for 1924, and I now believe said pensioner to be dead; and that the instructions at the foot of this voucher have been carefully observed in making up this voucher and the bills which are attached hereto. Given under my hand and official seal, this 12th day of March, 1925, C.R. Tondee, Ordinary, Schley, County (NOTE: Also appears as a supporting document is an invoice from the firm of Williams & Collins, corner of Broad & Oglethorpe streets, dealers in Dry Goods, Groceries, Shoes and Hats, Furniture and Coffins. It notes that the principals of the business are H.J. Williams and E.E. Collins. It is dated Ellaville, Ga., March 12, 1925. It indicates it is to Mrs. Ella Patton for Mrs. E.M. Woodall. Date of entry of the items on the invoice is Jan. 15, 1925. the items billed were one casket $100 and hearse hire $10, for a total of $110. Handwritten on the bottom of the invoice is the following: “The above and foregoing account is received (?) for funeral expenses of Mrs. E.M. Woodall, of Schley County, who died without owning sufficient property to pay this bill. H.J. Williams (signed). Sworn to and subscribed before me, this March 12th, 1925, C.R. Tondee, Ordinary” Additional Comments: Jacob T. Woodall was the son of Clemet Alvis Woodall and Sarah Mercer. He was born in 1833 and the details of his death are contained in this application. He married Elizabrth Melvina Lightner in Marion Co. on December 7, 1855. Their daughter Mary Ella is the Mrs. Ella Patton mentioned in these papers.
