What is your name and where do you reside? Caleb Lafayette Peacock, Ellaville, Schley Co. Ga. 2. How long and since when have you been a continuous resident citizen of the State? All my life. 3. Did you enlist in the Army of the Confederate States or the Organized Militia of the State from 1861 to 1865? 4. When and where, and in what Company and Regiment did you enlist? (Give the arm and class of service) March 1862, Cumberland Gap, Tenn., Co. Q, 2nd Batt. Ga. S.S. (Sharp Shooters), Com. Sergeant. 5. How long did you remain in the actual Military Service with said Company and Regiment? (Give date of discharge) Until close of war, May, 1865. 6. When and where was your Company and Regiment surrendered or discharged from the service? Surrendered High Point, N.C., at the close of the war. 7. Were you actually present with your Command when it was surrendered or discharged? No. 8. If you were not actually present, state specifically and clearly where you were. I was in hospital in Ft. Valley, Ga. 8a. Where was your command when you left it? At Hamburg, S.C. 8b. When did you leave the Command? On the 20th of April, 1865. 8c. For what cause did you leave? Pneumonia 8d. By whose authority did you leave? The regimental surgeon, Dr. Harrison. 8e. For how long was your leave granted? In what way? I was sent to the hospital ‘til fit for service. 8f. Why did you not return to your Command after leave expired. In hospital at close of war. 8g. In what way were you prevented? Discharged at close of war. 8h. What effort did you make to return? Was in hospital when war closed 8i. Were you captured during the war? No. 8j. If so, when and where? In what prison were you held and when were you released? Never captured, never in prison. 9. What property of every description was owned, in the use, possession and control of yourself and wife, and its cash value on the 4 Nov. 1908? (Make list by items and value.) None. 10. What property of any kind have you and your wife disposed of and for what purpose since 4 Nov. 1908? To whom and for what price? None. 11. What property of any description, of any kind, and of any value now owned and in the use, possession and control of yourself and wife and its cash value? (Make itemized list). None. 12. What annual or monthly income or earnings of yourself and wife and the source derived have you? 13. Are you drawing a pension of any amount from the State of the United States? No. 14. Have you ever applied for the Georgia Pension and had it refused? And for what cause it was not allowed? Applied 1907. Owned at that time a store house & lot in Ellaville, Ga. Sold for $800.00. Devane of said State and County is hereby presented as a witness in support of the application of C.L. Peacock for the pension provided by the Act of 1910, in said State, and after being sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? T.H. Devane, reside in Schley County, Georgia. 2. How long and since when have you known C.L. Peacock, the applicant? All my life. 3. Where does he now reside, and since when has he been a bona fide, continuing resident in the state and how do you know? Ellaville, Ga. Has been a resident of the State all his life. I have known him all of my life. 4. When, where and in what Company and Regiment did C.L. Peacock enlist during war from 1861 to 1865? (Give date and place) March 1862 Cumberland Gap, Tenn., Co. A, 2nd Batt. Ga. S.S. 5. How did you obtain your information of this service? I was there with him. 6. How long within your own personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with this Company and Regiment? (Give Date) March 1862 to the close of the war. 7. When and where was his Command surrendered or discharged? (Give date and place) High Point, N.C., May 1865—at close of war. 8. Were you personally present at the Surrender? Yes. 9. If not, where were you and how came you there? I was present. 10.Was the applicant personally present with his Command at surrender? No. 11.If not, where was he and how came him there? In hospital at Ft. Valley, Ga. Sent there on account of sickness. 12.When did he leave his Command? About 20th April 1865. Where was his Command when he left it? Hamburg, S.C. for what cause did he leave? Pneumonia. By whose authority did he leave? Surgeon in charge. And how long was he granted leave? Until able for duty. How do you know all that you have stated to be true? If of your own knowledge (tell clearly and specifically) I know of my own personal knowledge—being with him 13.In what way was he prevented from returning to his Command? War closed. 14.What effort did he make to return to his Command and how do you know? He was in hospital when war closed. 15.Was applicant captured as prisoner? No. T.H. AFFIDAVIT OF TWO FREEHOLDERS STATE OF GEORGIA Schley County Personally before me comes W.W. Lumpkin and J.H. Cheney, who on oath says they are freeholders residing in said county and we know C.L. Peacock, the applicant for pension and we know the property that is now in the use, possession and control of himself and wife and its cash value to wit: (make list by items and value.) There is no property owned by applicant or his wife. Applicant has no property. 1. What property, if any has been sold or given away by the applicant or his wife since 4 Nov. 1908? (State fully by items.) None whatsoever. 2. When and to whom was it sold or given to? Had no property to dispose of. 3. What was the price paid or stated to be paid? None disposed of. 4. What relation is the party to applicant? None. 5. What disposition was made of the proceeds of the sale? No sales. 6. Was the disposition of this property made in good faith and full value? No sales. John W. Lindsay, Pension Commissioner Atlanta, Ga. Dear Sir: Find enclosed application of C.L. Peacock for Pension under Act of 1910, which I trust is duly made out and verified. With reference to this application, I wish to say, that I have known the applicant all of my life, and that I individually know that the facts as set forth in his application are true. He deserves a Pension, in every sense of the word, and should have been drawing same for a number of years, under the indigent act. I trust that this application will not receive any undue consideration on account of its getting in on the last moment, but that you will see that it takes its regular course and that the applicant will be put on the drawing list for the present term. He is now 71 years of age and needs the help immediately. Very truly yours, E.B. Barrow, Ordinary Schley County, Ga. Application for Pension Due to a Deceased Pensioner (To be paid to the Ordinary for Expenses of Funeral and Last Illness) (Under Act Approved August 15, 1904) GEORGIA, Schley County Personally before me, the Ordinary of said County, comes Chas. D. Carter of said county, who, after being sworn, on oath says that he knew C.L. Peacock of said county, and that said Pensioner was on the Pension Roll of said County at the time of death, which occurred in Schley County, in this State, on the 17th day of June 1930 and that Pensioner left no widow surviving, and no estate of any value sufficient to pay these funeral expenses, which amounted to the sum of $258.50, per sworn statements fully and completely ITEMIZED hereto attached.
