State of Georgia Schley County Seaborn Jones Allen of said State and County, hereby applies for the pension provided by Act of 1910, to Confederate Soldiers, and submits his sworn statement, with his testamony to make out the same, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the qiestions propounded, answers as follows, to wit: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? Seaborn Jones Allen, Schley Co., Ga. Oglethorpe, P.O. 2. How long and since when have you been a continuous resident citizen of this state? All my life, 70 years & I am old & infirm. 3. Dis you enlist in the Army of the Confederate States or the Organized Militia of this State from 1861 to 1865? Yes. I was not quite 18 when I enlisted. 4. When and where, and in what Company and Regiment did you enlist? Sept. 1863. Went out with Co. E, 29th Ga. Bat, Hood's Cavalry, joined in Miller Co., Colquitt 5. How long did you remain in the actual military service with said company and regiment? until April 1865, stopped at Swainsboro on account armistice & discharged there. 6. When and where was your company and regiment surrendered or discharged from the service? At Swainsboro. We disbanded & was paroled at Macon, Ga. 7. Were you actually present with your command when it was surrendered or discharged? Yes 8. If you were not actually present, state specifically and clearly where you were a. Where was your command when you left it? Swainsboro b. When did you leave the command? April 1865. c. For what cause did you leave? Disbanded, close of war. d. By whose authority did you leave? Arthur (looks like) Hood, Commander e-h. not answered aaas not applicable. i. Were you captured during the war? No. 9. What property of every description was owned, in the use, possession and control of yourself and its cash value on the 4 Nov. 1908? Nothing. My wife gave in for taxes in 1908 as follows: 132 acres land, value 1100.00, household and k(itchen) furniture 50.00, wagons & buggies & c 40.00, horses & mules 185.00. Total $1380. it is not worth that. 10. What property of any kind have you disposed of and for what purpose since 4 Nov. 1908. To whom and for what price? no one 11. What property of any description of any kind, and of any value now owned and in use, possession and control of yourself and its cash value? Nothing. 12. What annual or monthly income or earnings of yourself and the source derived have you? Nothing 13. Are you drawing a pension of any amount from this State or the United States? No 14. Have you ever applied for the Georgia Pension and had it refused? and for what cause it was not allowed? In 1907 I applied & was refused, see attached paper & deponent offers its witness E.J. AFFADAVIT OF TWO FREEHOLDERS State of Georgia Schley County Personally before me comes M.D. Herring & C.R. McCrory who on oath says that they are freeholders residing in said county and we know Seaborn Jones Allen, the applicant for pension and we know the property that is now in the use, possession and control of himself and of its cash value to wit: He gave in nothing. His wife gave in 1908 $1380.00 worth & it is not worth that now. 1. What property, if any, has been sold or given away by the applicant since Nov. 4 1908? Nothing 2. When and to whom was it sold or given to? no one 3. What was the price paid or stated to be paid? 4. What relation is the party to applicant? No kin. 5. What disposition was made of the proceeds of the sale? 6. Was the disposition of this property made in good faith and full value? or was it made to obtain a pension? M.D. Herring C.R. McCrory Sworn to and subscribed before me, this the 7th day of December 1915. C.R. Tondee, Ordinary of Schley County. ORDINARY'S CERTIFICATE State of Georgia Schley County I, C.R. Tondee, Ordinary of said county, certify that I know the applicant, S.J. Allen, for pension is the person he represents himself to be and resides in said county. That I do not know E.J. Mulkey, the witness swearing to he service and M.D. Herring & C.R. McCrory, who are freeholders, that they are all residents of said county, excluding Mulkey who was a resident of Macon Co., and were sworn by me before signing the foregoing affadavit and they are all truthful and trustworthy and their statements are entitled to full faith and credit. That the Tax Returns of Schley Co., Ga. shows that S.J. Allen value for tax is in 1908--nothing, for 1909--nothing, for 1910--nothing, for 1911-- nothing, for 1912--nothing, for 1913--nothing, for 1914--nothing, for 1915-- nothing. His wife total taxes in 1908 was $1380 & it is not worth as much today as it was then. Sworn under my hand and official seal of office this 7th day of Dec. 1915. C.R. Tondee, Ordinary of Schley County. QUESTIONS FOR WITNESS State of Georgia Macon County E.J. Mulkey of said State and County, having been presented as a witness in support of the application of S.J. Allen for pension under section 1254, Code, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? E.J. Mulkey, in Macon County. 2. Are you acquainted with S.J. Allen, the applicant: If so how long have you known him? Ever since the war. 3. Where does he reside, and how long and since when has he been a resident of this State? Schley county and has been a resident of state all his life. 4. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist, and how do you know? Sept. 1863 in Colquitt, Miller Co., in Company E, 29th Battn Cavalry. I was with him. 5. Were you a member of the same company and regiment? Same Battallion 6. How long did he perform regular military duty? to end of war. 7. When and where was his command surrendered? Waynesboro, Ga. 8. Were you present when it surrendered? Yes 9. Was applicant present? Yes 10. If he was not present, where was he? was present. When did he leave his command? April 1865. For what cause? armistice. 11. What property, income or effects has the applicant? (Give your means of knowledge) None. I do not know positively. Live 15 miles from him. 12. What property, effects orincome did the applicant posess in 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904 and 1905, and what disposition, if any did he make of same? none that I know of. 13. Has he conveyed away any of his property in the last four years; if so, what was it and to whom? No. 14. What is the applicant’s occupation and physical condition? He has no occupation now. Not able to work. Very feeble. 15. Is the applicant unable to support himself by labor of any sort; if so why? old age & very feeble. 16. How was he supported dueing the years 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904 and 1905? by his wife on little farm. 17. What portion of his support for these four years was derived from his own labor or income? very little, not exceeding 20.00 per anum. 18. Give a full and complete statement of the applicant’s physical condition that entitles him to a pension under Section 1254, Code. He is 63 years old & very feeble. He suffers from a kidney trouble. 19. Who composes family? What property have they? Children’s ages and their earning capacity? Wife--100 acres of poor land. Children all married, left home. 20. AFFADAVIT OF PHYSICIANS State of Georgia Schley County Personally came before me B.L. Bridges, M.D. and L.G. Stewart, M.D., both known to me as reoutable physicians of said county, who, being severally sworn, say on oath that they have examined carefully Seaborn Jones Allen, applicant for pension under section 1254, Code, and after such personal examination say that his precise physical condition is as follows: I find Mr. S.J. Allen suffering with rheumatism and indigestion, also catarah (?) of heart (?) and is not physically able to do manual labor, and we have no interest in said pension being allowed. B.L.
