Biggens personally known to me to be trustworthy citizens, each of whom, being duly sworn according to law, severally say, under oath, that they are personally and well acquainted with Charles Blackshear whos application is herewith presented for a pension, that he has resided in this State continuously since the 24th day of December, 1841, that he served in Company A of the 31st Regiment of Lawton's Brigade, and from our personal knowledge, he while in the line of duty, was injured by the service as follows: He was shot on the battlefield at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania through the left arm near the wrist causing said left arm to perish away. and to draw three fingers down in the palm of said left hand, rendering said left hand and arm substantially and essentially useless. He was at the same time and place wounded in the right side of the head, fracturing the skull. The applicant, Chas. Blackshear being a farmer and having to be continuously exposed to the sun, in our opinion said wound would render him practically incompetent to perform the manual vocations of life. We personally know above stated facts. We were with him in the Army and have known him ever since. He was honorably discharged or retired from the service on ___day of April 1865. Applicant disabled as stated and has been so to our certain knowledge ever since 1863. We have no interest in the recovery of a pension by him. W.H. Shores, Co. B T.P. Young, Co. B J.L.
