State of Georgia Schley County Personally before me comes Mrs. Martha Bridges of said state and county, and after being duly sworn, on oath says that she desires to apply for a pension allowed under the Act of _______ 1910, and submit testimony to make out the same, true answers makes to the following questions to wit: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? Martha Bridges, Schley Co., Ga. 2. How long and since when have you been a continuing resident in the state of Georgia? all my life 3. When, where and to whom were you married? 1861, Schley Co., Stephen Royls 4. When, where and in what company and regiment did your husband enlist as a soldier in Confederate Army or Georgia Militia? 1862, Ellaville, Ga., Schley Guards, Co. B 46th Reg. 5. When and where did the commands of your husband surrender or discharge from the army? 1862, came home, Schley Co. on furlough 6. Was your husband personally present at the time of the surrender or discharge of this command? He was not. He was at home. 7. If he was not present, state clearly where he was? He was dead. 8. Where was his command when he left? Charleston, SC a. For what cause did he leave his command? Came home sick & died b. By whose authority did he leave his command? on furlough was sick c. For how long was he granted leave of absence? one week e. What was his physical condition when he left his command? sick with measles f. What are your annual earnings or income and their value? None 13. Have you heretofore been paid a pension by the state? (Note: The recorded marriage of Stephen A.Royal and Martha Killebrew shows a date of 16 Aug 1855 in Marion Co. How long and since when have you known Stephen Royls, applicant (should have been Martha Bridges)? 1880 (looks like-ink smudged) 3. How long and since when has she continuously resided in this state? Ever since I knew her 1850 (?-ink smudged) 4. When and to whom was she married? How do you know? 1851 Stephen Royls, live together 5. How long and since when did you know Stephen Royls her husband? Since 1850 6. When, where and what company and regiment did Stephen Royls enlist? March 1862, Co. B, 46th Ga. 7. Were you a member of the same Company? I was 8. How long within your personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with his company and regiment? from 1862 March to May 1862 9. When and where did his command surrender, and was discharged? 1865, Hillsborough, No. Ca(?) surrender 10. Were you personally present when it surendered? I was 11. Was the husband of applicant pesonally present at surrender? No If not, where was he? dead, Schley County, Ga. When, were and fro what cause did he leave his command? (no answer) and how long was he granted leave? one week How do you know all of this? I was there 12. For what cause, if you know of your own knowledge was he prevented from returning to his command? he died at home 13. What effort didhe make to return to his command and how do you know this? (Note: Two freeholders, James Kelly and J.M. Souter attested to the fact that they knew Martha Bridges and she owned nothing.) APPLICATION FOR PENSION DUE TO A DECEASED PENSIONER Under the Act of August 15, 1904 To Be Paid to the Ordinary for Funeral Expenses and Expenses of Last Illness Georgia, Schley County Personally before me, the Ordinary of said county, comes James Kellyof said county, who, after being sworn, on oath says that he knew Mrs. Martha Bridges of said county, and that she was on the widows of dead soldiers pension roll Schley county at the time of her death, which occurred in Schley county, in this state, on the 24th day of March, 1921, and that a pension of $125.00 dollars was due her and unpaid at the time of her death. That she left no dependent children surviving her, and no estate of any value sufficient to pay her funeral expenses, which amounted to the sum of $226.50 dollars, as per sworn statement, itemizedm hereto attached. James Kelly Sworn to and subscribed before me this 2nd day of May, 1921. C.R. Tondee, Ordinary Schley county. In the file is a copy of an invioce from Williams & Collins, Ellaville to James Kelly, dated 25 Apr 1921, for a casket $85, and herse hire $15. There is also a bill from Dr. B.L.Bridges for $96.00 for services related to her last illness. There is no documentation for the remaining $30.50.
