Larkin, of said state and county, hereby applies for the pension provided by Act of 1910, as amended by Act of 1910, to Confederate soldiers, and submits his sworn statement , with his testimony to make out the same; and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows, to-wit: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? Aaron M. larkin Ellaville, Schley Co., Ga. 2. How long and since when have you been a continuous resident citizen of this state? since 1894 3. Did you enlist in the Army of the Confederate States or in the organized militia of this stae from 1861 to 1865? Yes 4. When and where an in company and regiment didn you enlist? Ellaville, 1863, Co. H 10th Ga. Regt. 5. How long did you remain in the actual military service with said company and regiment? from 1863 to 1865 6. When and where was your company and regiment surrendered or discharged from the service? 1865 at Thomasville, Ga. 7. Were you actually present with your command when it surrendered or discharged? No 8. If you were not actually present, state specifically and clearly where you were. At home on sick furlough. a. Where was your command when you left it? Thomasville b. QUESTIONS FOR WITNESS AS TO SERVICE State of Georgia Worth County Henry Stewart of said State and County is hereby presented as a witness in support of the application of Aaron M. Larkin for the pension provided by the Act of 1910, as amended by the Act of 1919 in said State,and, after being sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? Henry Stewart, Worth Co., Ga., P.O. Sumner, Ga., Route # 1 2. How long and since when have you known Aaron M. Larkin, the applicant? made his acquaintance while in the service 3. Where does he now reside, and since when has he been a bona fide, continuing resident in this state, and how do you know? Schley County, Ga., been nowing him for several years 4. When, where and in what Company and Regiment did Aaron M. Larkin enlist during war from 1861 to 1865? don't know when he enlisted, when I enlisted in 1864 in his Co. 5. How did you obtain your information of this service? by being in his Company H, 10th Ga., balance of the war with him 6. How long within your own personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with this company and regiment? July 1864 to April 1865 7. When and where was his command surrendered or discharged? left on furlough, met dispatch Lee surrendered before got Alby & Thomasville, Ga. 8. Wer you personally present at the surrender? No 9. If not, where were you and how came you there? don't know 10. Was the applicant personally present with his command at surrender don't know 11. If not where was he and how came him there? don't know 12. If of your own knowledge, tell clearly and specifically. All I know was from being present until granted furlough. 13. Was applicant captured as a prisoner? No Henry Stewart Sworn to and subscribed before me, this the 26th day of August 1919 S.S. Story, Ordinary of Worth County. The following note appears on the outside of the pension folder: "Pension Office-Nov. 13, 1919. Aaron M. Larkin-Schley-Applicant must amend and state just when and where he left command, with what sick(ness?) and in what way sickness affected him to keep him away from command when he was at surrender and prove all his statements to be true by someone that knows they are true. The witness submitted knows nothing." The next documents in the file are those relating to the application of Mrs. Miranda Larkin for a widow's pension. Apparently Aaron Larkin amended his application and satisfied the pension office as the following documents would indicate he got a pension. CERTIFICATE OF ORDINARY State of Georgia, Schley County I, C.R. Tondee, Ordinary of said county, do certify that I personally know Mrs. Miranda Larkin, the applicant, and that she is the lawful widow of A.M. Larkin, and was on the _________ Pension Roll of said Schley County, and was paid a pension from Schley County for 1923, and at the time of his death on the 12th day of November 1923, there was due to him and unpaid his pension of one hundred dollars from the state of Georgia, and I know Chas. D. Carter, the within witness, and he is of a truthful and trustworthy character and entitled to full credit. Given under my hand and seal this 23rd of January, 1924. C.R. Tondee, Ordinary Schley County. APPLICATION FOR PENSION DUE DECEASED SOLDIER (To Be Paid to His Widow or Dependent Children) (Under Act Approved October 9, 1891) State of Georgia, Schley County. Personally before me, the Ordinary of said County, comes Mrs. Maranda Larkin of said county, who after being duly sworn, on oath says that she is the widow of A.M. Larkin and that said pensioner was on the Pension Roll of Schley county and was paid a pension of one hundred dollars from Schley county for 1923 and that the said pensioner died in Schley county on the 12th day of Nov., 1923 and at the time of his death a pension of $100.00 was due him from Schley county and unpaid for 1924. Applicant further swears that she married the said A.M. Larkin on the 6th day of Jan. 1890, in Schley county and stste of Ga., and resided with him from the date of marriage to his death as his lawful wife, and is now his dependent widow, aand she asks that the pension so due and unpaid be paid to her. Maranda Larkin Sworn to and subscribed before me this 23rd day of Jan., 1924. C.R. Tondee, Ordinary, Schley County. AFFIDAVIT OF WITNESS State of Georgia, Schley County. Personally before me comes Chas. D. Carter, who on oath says that he knew A.M. Larkin while in life and that he knows Mrs. Maranda Larkin, the above applicant; and knows that the said _____________ and _______________ were in due form of law married in the county of _________in the state of _________ on the_______ day of _________, 18__, and that they were residing together as husband and wife at the time of his death on the 12th day of Nov. 1923, and that she is his dependent widow. Chas. D. Carter Sworn to and subscribed before me this the 23rd day of Jan., 1924. C.R. Tondee, Ordinary Schley County. Also in the file is a copy of the marriag license of A.M. Larkin to Marinda Causey, which was issued Jan. 6, 1890 and recorded on page 77, book __ of marriage licenses. It indicate that the marriage occured that same day and was certified by W.R. Singleton and T.B. Myers. Additional Comments: Additional information: Aaron Larkin is found on the 1880 Smith Co., Tx census living with a Bass family which is right next door to his brother George W. Larkin. Aaron and Maranda/Marinda Larkin are buried at Poplar Ridge cemetery, Schley Co. Her death according to her stone was 11 Feb. 1933.
