Hixson of Schley County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn says on oath that he was born on the 11th day of November 1838, that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of Georgia, and has been continuously since 11th day of November 1838, that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States(or the State of Georgia) during the war between the states, and served as a private in Company G of Fifth Ga. Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, Jackson's Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service, and in line of duty in the state of South Carolina, on the 6th day of December 1864, he was disabled or wounded as follows: Received a gun shot wound through the lower part of the right thigh while engaged in the battle of Coosethatchee in the state of South Carolina on the 6th day of December 1864: tearing the muscles & making such a frightful wound that the surgeon wanted to cut the leg off, telling me that if the leg healed up it would be of no service; but through my appeals they waited to see if the leg could be saved. The wound heled but every since then the wound at intervals forms matter & runs & lays me up for some time. I cannot use the leg for the purposes of manual labor enough for making a support. The leg at the wound is reduced about 1/3 it's natural size, and gives me more or less pain all the time & on continued extension is very painful. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act approved October 24th, 1887, and the acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the allowance to which hei is entitled for the year thereunder, ending October 26th, 1896. T.J. Hixson Sworn to and subscribed before me, this the 25th day of April 1896. Phil E. Taylor, Ordinary AFFIDAVIT FOR WITNESSES State of Georgia Schley County Personally appears before me, the undersigned Ordinary in and for said County, Wm. Allen, A. Allen and Robt. Burton, each of whom being duly sworn according to law, severally say, under oath, that they are personally well acquainted with T.J. Hixson whose application is herewith presented for a pension, that he served in Company G of the %th Ga. Regiment of Jackson's Brigade, and from our personal knowledge he was injured by the service as follows: (give full statement, and tell in your own language when and how the injury happened, and how badly applicant is disabled from work. If he does any labor, or can do any, stste what.) Received a gun shot wound in or through the lower part of the right thigh while engaged in the battle of Coosehatchee in the state of South Carolina on the 6th day of December 1864, tearing the muscles and reducing the thigh to 1/3 of natural size & causing the leg to be of little use, not of sufficient service to enable him to perform manual labor enough for a support. The wound superating at times & causing much la??ness. He can walk, but not for much distance, or time without complaining of pain. We personally know above stated facts. We were with him in the army an have known him ever since. He was honorably discharged or retired from the service on the surrender of Johnson's army in 1865, but was not on duty from above wound. Applicant is permanently disabled as stated and has been so to our certain knowledge ever since 1865. We have no interest in the recovery of a pension b y him. A. Allen William Allen Robt. Taylor, Ordinary of said County, R.T. Bivins and B.L. Bridges, bothe known to me as reputable physicians of said county, who being severally sworn, say on oath, that they have carefully examined T.J. Hixson and after such personal examination, say that the present condition of applicant is as follows: He is suffering from a gun shot wound in the lower third of the right thigh, lacerating the bony head of the biceps flexon crusis and gracilis, thereby causing said muscles to perish, causing pain on any exertion or use of the leg; rendering said leg essentially useless, and that said condition is permanent. We further say that said condition arises from the following facts: We furthermore aver (avow?) that at times the muscles of said wound superates. The leg at place of woundbeing considerably smaller than at the same part of the left. We have treated applicant personally for __________ years, and his condition, as above stated, does not arise from any hereditary or congenital cause, nor from any vicious of intemperate habits. R.T.
