Cobb, Ordinary of Sumter County. Office of C.R. McCrory Attorney at Law Ellaville, Ga. Dec. 19, 1921 Hon. John W. Lindsay Atlanta, Ga. Dear Sir: Enclosed find an application for pension from James Robert Etheridge. The Constitutional ammendment passed in 1920 will allow him a pension I think. Th application was made in 1915 and you said you could not allow it. The Ordinary here has had he application all the time and the applicant is in very needy circumstances. Let us hear if it is possible for him to get a pension this year. If not when will he commence to get one? Very truly yours, Chas. R. McCrory (beneath this type written note is the following handwritten one. I don't know who Edwards is or Papa.) Dear Edwards: Please present this application & if possible get Mr. Ethridge his pension, as he is old, penniless & almost helpless. He is living with his nephew, Mr. D.R. Murray, who supports & clothes him. Very nicely. It was an oversight in the Ordinary, not to send this application in at the proper time as they have been in his office all the time. Papa. (There is a second application almost identical to the one presented above that was dated 9 August 1922.) James Robert Ethridge died was April 8, 1931 Thanks to Margaret Gooding we also know his birth date, March 28, 1847. He was the son of Greene Thomas Etheredge and Sarah E. Pace, who were married on Jan. 18, 1846.) Additional Comments: This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 7.2 Kb
