State of Georgia Schley County. R.A. Darden of said State and County, hereby applies for the pension provided by Act of 1910, to Confederate Soldiers, and submits his sworn statement, with his testimony to make out the same, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows, to wit: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? R.A. Darden Schley Co., Ga. Post Office, Americus, Ga., Route 2. 2. How long and since when have you been a continuous resident citizen of this state? all my life, 15 June 1846. 3. Did you enlist in the Army of the Confederate States or of the Organized Militia of this State from 1861 to 1865? Army of the Confederate States. 4. When and where, and in what comapny and regiment did you enlist? 1863 Sumter Co., Ga. Co. E, 5th Ga. Reserve Infantry. 5. How long did you remain in the actual military service with said company and regiment? rom 1863 to close of war. 6. When and where was your company and regiment surrendered or discharged from the service? Greensboro, N.C. Apr. 26, 1865. 7. Were you actually present with your command when it was surrendered or discharged? No. 8. If you were not actually present, state specifically and clearly where you were. In hospital at Andersonville, Ga. a. Where was your command when you left it? Branchville, S.C. b. When did you leave the command? Some time in Jany. 1865. c. For what cause did you leave? Sickness d. By whose authority did you leave? by furlow. e. For how long was your leave granted? 60 days In what way? for sickness. f. Why did you not return to your command after leave expired? was placed in hospital. g. In what way were you prevented? Examining Board at Andersonville, Ga. h. What effort did you make to return? Went before Board at Andersonville, Ga. for service & they placed me in hospital & remained there until close of war. i. Were you captured during the war? No. j. If so, when and where? In what prison were you held and when were you released? no answer. 9. What property of every discription was owned, in the use, possession and control of yourself and wife, and its cash value on the 4 Nov. 1908? None. 10. What property of any kind have you or your wife disposed of and for what purpose since 4 Nov., 1908. To whom and for what price? None. 11. What property of any description of any kind, and of any value now owned and in the use, possession and control of yourself and wife and its cash value? None. 12. What annual or monthly income or earnings of yourself and wife and the sourece derived have you? $100.00 annually by manual labor. 13. Are you drawing a pension of any amount from this state or the United States? No. 14. Have you ever applied for the Georgia Pension and had it refused? and for what cause it was not allowed? No. R.A. Arrington of said state and county is hereby presented as a witness in support of the application of R.A. Darden for the pension provided by the Act of 1910, in said state, and after being sworn true answers to make to the questions propounded, answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? R.R. Arrington Americus, Ga. 2. How long and since when have you known R.A. Darden, tha applicant? about 50 years. 3. Where does he now reside, and since when has he been a bonafide, continuing resident in this state and how do you know? Schley County all his life. 4. When, where and in what company and regiment did R.A. Darden enlist during war from 1861 to 1865? 5. How did you obtain your informationof this service? In same regiment, Co. D 6. How long within your own personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with this company and regiment? 20 Jany. 1865 7. When and where was his command surrendered or discharged? Greensboro, N.C. Apr. 26, 1865. 8. Were you personally present at the surrender? Yes. 9. If not, where were you and how came you there? no answer 10. Was applicant personally present at the surrender? No. 11. If not, where was he and how came him there? Had been sent to hospital, sick. 12. When did he leave his command? Jany. 1865. Where was his command when he left it? Branchville, S.C. For what cause did he leave? Sick. By whose authority did he leave? Medical dept. and how long was he granted leave? 60 days fro Jany. 1865. How do you know all you have stated to be true? If of your own knowledge, tell clearly and specifically. Was in same regiment. 13. In what way was he prevented from returning to his comand? Sick. How do you know? His statement. 14. What effort did he make to return to his command and how do you know? Was ??????? at Anersonville by Medical Board. 15. Was applicant captured as a prisoner? No. R.R. Arrington Sworn to and subscribed before me, this the 10th day of Sept. 1910. John A. Cobb, Ordinary of Sumter County. APPLICATION FOR PENSION DUE TO A DECEASED PENSIONER (To Be Paid to the Ordinary for Expenses of Funeral and Last Illness) (Under Act Approved August 15, 1904) Georgia, Schley County. Personally before me, the Ordinary of said county, comes Anerson Darden of said county, who, after being sworn, on oath says that he knew R.A. Darden od said county, and that said pensioner was on the pension roll of said county at the time of his death, whic occurred in Sumter County, in this state, on the 9th day of Jan. 1932, and that pensioner left no widow surviving, and no estate of any value sufficient to pay these funeral expenses, which amounted to the sum of $____, per sworn statements fully and completely itemized hereto attached. Anderson Darden Sworn to and subscribed before me, W.C. Stewart, Ordinary, Schley County. CERTIFICATE OF ORDINARY Georgia Schley County I, W.C. Stewart, Ordinary of said county, do certify that I personally know Anderson Darden, who is a resident of said county, and that said person is of trust worthy character, entitled to full faith and cedit; that I also knew R.A. Darden while in life and that this was the same person whose name appears on the pension roll of Schley County, and was paid a pension of $30.00 per month in said county for 1931, and I believe said pensioner to be dead; and that the instructions at the foot of this voucher have been carefully observed in making up this voucher and the bills which are attached hereto.
