Mott, who being sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of Moses J. Mott, who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company G, of the 64th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers; that he enlisted in said service on or about the 27th day of April 1863, and was in the Virginia Army up to 17th August 1864. That while in the Army, he was on the 28th day of June 1864, wounded as follows: that while on official duty detailed from said Virginia Army, to guard prisoners to Andersonville, Ga., was shot on said train near Augusta, Ga. & put in hospital at Augusta, Ga. where he died on the 17th day of August 1864 from said wound, being a space of seven weeks from date of wound to date of death. I further swear that I was present at his death & burial. Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the Army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife on the 9th day of March 1854, and that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the 23rd day of November 1837; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23d day of December, 1890, and since said date she has not lived in any other state or locality. Deponent, as the widow of said deceased soldier husband, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approved December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th, 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the allowance granted by said Act. AFFIDAVIT FOR THREE WITNESSES State of Georgia County of Sumter In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary, in and for said County, witnesses James Singletary and ___________ (each known to said Attesting Officer as truthful, reliable and reputable citizens), who severally say under oath, that from their own personal knowledge, Mrs. Laura E. Mott, of the County of Schley, State of Georgia, is the widow if M.J. Mott, who was a soldier in Company G of the 64 Regiment of Georgia Volunteers. That said soldier enlisted in the service of the Confederate States on or about the 27th day of April 1863. That while in said service, or by reason of said service in the Army, he lost his life as follows: He was detailed as a guard to conduct prisoners from Petersburg, Va. to Andersonville, Ga. and while on the way, he was shot and sent to hospital in Augusta, Ga. and there died on the 17th day of August 1864. Amendments: I further swear that I was on the train near Augusta, ga. when said Mott was shot with Minnie ball through the left leg below the knee & saw the wound & assisted in taking him off of said train & I positively know that he has never returned to his home since the war. His wound was the direct cause of his death. Our opportunity for knowing the facts stated in reference to death of applicant's husband were that he never returned to the regiment again. We further swear that Mrs. Laura E. Mott was the wife of said soldier during the service, and that she has not intermarried since his death, and that she resides in Schley County of the State of Georgia. State of Georgia Mitchell County Personally appeared before me, H.C. Dasher, Ordinary in and for said county, H.E. Harp, who on oath says that he knows of his own knowledge that M.J. Mott enlisted in the Confederate Army on or about the 27th day of April 1863 in Company G of the 64th Georgia Regiment of Georgia Volunteers and from information received from other members of his company that the said M.J. Mott was shot on his way from Petersburg, Va. with prisoners to Andersonville, Ga. and from the same information that said M.J. Mott died at the hospital at Augusta, Ga. on the 17th day of August 1864 and further swears that M.J. Mott never returned to Company G of the 64th Georgia Volunteers. A.E. Harp Sworn to and subscribed to before me this May 26th 1891. H.C. Dasher, Ordinary, Mitchell Co., Ga. State of Georgia Randolph County Personally appeared before me, M. Gromley, Ordinary in and for said county, John Bell who on oath says that he knows of his own knowledge that M.J. Mott enlisted in the Confederate Army on or about the 27th day of April 1863 in Company G of the 64 Georgia Regiment of Georgia Volunteers and from information received from other members of his company that he, the said M.J. Mott was shot on his way from Petersburgh, Va. with prisoners (for) Andersonville, Georgia, and from the same information that said M.J. Mott, died at the hospital at Augusta, Ga. on the 17th day of August 1864 and futher swear that M.J. Mott never returned to Company G of the 64th Regiment Ga. Volunteers. John Bell Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 6th day of May 1891 M. Gromley, Ordinary. FROM THE PENSION OFFICE Ex. Dept. Atlanta, ga. June 1, 1891 Returned for fuller proof two of these witnesses testify evidently from heresay. The witnesses or other are asked to give full particulars of the shooting of Mr. Mott. Give all the facts connected with the killing or wounding as far as known. M.H. Harrison AMENDED AFFIDAVIT OF APPLICANT Mrs. Laura E. Mott, applicant further sworn, says that she was with her husband in Augusta several days before his death & deceased told her, near Augusta, Ga. he was relieved by a rlief guard for a few hours & having slept none from Virginia to the place or near when he received the shot. He sit down on a seat with prisoners in same box no where else to ride & removed his gun by side of him & fell asleep & was awoke by receiving the wound & report of gun. He said he did not know positively whether he was shot shot by the prisoners or accidently. L.E. Mott Sworn to and subscribed before me, July 1st, 1891. T.B. Myers, Ordy., S.C. Georgia Schley County Personally appeared before T.B. Myers, Ordinary of said county, J.M. Gay & A.H. Eubanks who on oath says that they know of their own knowledge that Moses J. Mott of said county & state did enlist in the Confederate Army on or about the 27th day of April 1863 in company G of the 64 Regiment Ga. Volunteers & we positively testify that said Mott did serve in the Confederate service and that he never has returned to his home in Schley County since the war nor has never been heard from since the close of the war. We were citizens of said state and county before, during & since the war & know of our own knowledge what we swore to. J.M. Gay A(mos ?) H. Eubanks Sworn to and subscribed before me this June 20th 1891 T.B. Myers, Ordinary F.M. Pilcher sworn says that Moses J. Mott did enlist the Confederate service about the 27th day of April 1863 in Company G, 64 Regt. Ga. Vols., that he was detailed from said Co. in the state of Virginia to guard prisoners to Andersonville, Ga. I was a member of same company & Regt. & know that he never did return to said company & regiment, neither has he ever returned to his home in Schley County, ga. since the war or been heard from.
