Reese, who being sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of J.J. Reese, who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company A, of the 12th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers; that he enlisted in said service on or about the 15th day of May 1861, and was in the Virginia Army up to June 1862. That while in the Army, he was on the ____ day of May 1862, That he was in in the Confederate service, & Army of Virginia for 13 months, when he was furloughed home, very sick with the disease of chronic diarrhea & there remained for the space of 4 months when he joined the 29th Georgia Cavalry, which command he remained with to the close of the war & when he returned home said disease was still praying upon him which was contracted in service & which I positively know was the immediate cause of his death, which occurred on the 2nd June 1882 in Schley County, Ga. at his home. Further(?) he was promptly discharged from Virginia Army. Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife on the 13th day of November 1851, an that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the 6th day of October 1828; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23d day of December, 1890, and since said date she has not lived in any other state or locality. Deponent, as the widow of said deceased soldier, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approved December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th, 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the allowance granted by said act. AFFIDAVIT FOR THREE WITNESSES State of Georgia Schley County In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary, in and for said county, witnesses R.H. Slappy, E.S. Baldwin and B.S. Teel (each known to said Attesting Officer as truthful, reliable and reputable citizens), who severally say under oath, that, from their own personal knowledge, Mrs. C.E. Reese, of the County of Schley, State of Georgia, is the widow of J.J. Reese, who was a soldier in Company A of the 12th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers on or about the 15th day of May 1861. That while in said service, or by reason of said service in the army, he lost his life as follows: That while in the Army of Virginia near Alleghany Mountains he was on or about May 1862. He contracted the disease of chronic diarrhea while in camp & remained with army about one month when he was furloughed home & there remained for 4 months. When he joined the 29th Georgia Cavalry which company he remained with to the close of the war which disease continued during his whole service & also continued to the day of his death which occurred on the 2nd June 1882. We were comrades in the army & his near neighbors after the war & positively believe & know that said disease was the immediate cause of his death. Further that he was positively discharged from the Virginia Army. (The following is in a different handwritting and quite difficult to read) I knew him well and r?????? his My??????? that he was never well of severe diarrhea. ?? ?????? from the day of his discharge from the army to the day of his death.
