All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Harris Hill http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00011.html#0002514 February 17, 2004, 9:11 pm AFFIDAVIT TO BE MADE BY THE WIDOW State of Georgia Schley County In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary, in and for the county of Schley, Mrs. Emily Reid, who being sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of Bynum Reid, who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company H, of the 61st Regiment of State Troops (notation by pension commissioner "no such"); that he enlisted in said service on or about the 20th day of July 1864, and was in the Georgia Militia Army up to 10th August 1864, was taken sick with fever while in service around Atlanta & sent to Columbus Hospital & from said disease (?) died 14th of August 1864, in said hospital at Columbus, Ga. Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the Army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife on the 24th day of Jany 1861, and that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the 9th day of May 1836; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23d day of December, 1890, and since said date she has not lived in any other state or locality. Deponent, as widow of said decased soldier husband, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approved December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th, 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the allowance granted by said Act. Emily Reid Sworn to and subscribed before me, this, the 28th day of April 1891. T.B. Myers, Ordinary. AFFIDAVIT FOR THREE WITNESSES. State of Georgia County of Schley In person came before me the undersigned Ordinary in and for said county, witnesses H.G. Daniel and W.G. Womack (each known to said Attesting Officer as truthful, reliable and reputable citizens), who severally say under oath, that, from their own personal knowledge, Mrs. Emily Reid, of the County of Schley, State of Georgia, is the widow of Bynum Reid, who was a soldier in Company H of the 61st Regiment of State Troops. That said soldier enlisted in the service of the Confederate States on or about the 20th day of July 1864. That while in said service, or by feason of said service in the Army, he lost his life as follows: While in service around Atlanta, was taken sick with fever & sent to Columbus Hospital & on the 14th day of August 1864 died in said hospital from said disease--being about three weeks from the time of said attack of fever, we positively believe & know that said disease was the immediate & direct cause of his death. We further swear that we were members of the same company, which is the reason of the above & foregoing affidavits. We further swear that Mrs. Emily Reid was the wife of said soldierduring the service, and that she has not intermarried since his death, and that she resides in Schley County of the State of Georgia.
