Snipes of Schley county, state of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said state, and has been such since the 18th day of April 1851; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the states, and served as first a corporal & then 1st Leiutenant in Comapnay G, of 5th Regiment of Ga. Volunteers, J.K. Jackson's Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service, at the battle of Missionary Ridge in the state of Tennessee, on the 26th day of Nov. 1863, he was wounded as follows: shot by a minnie ball just below the shoulder joint of the left shoulder, said ball entering on the back side of said shoulder & passed entirely through & came out on the front side of said shoulder at the intersection of the arm to the body, said ball breaking off the end of the arm bone where it joins the shoulder & fracturing the shoulder bone which would have rendered the arm stiff & the muscles to contract & render said arm stiff. Deponent can not raise said arm up on a lvel with deponent's head. ????? wound has permanently rendered said arm substantially & essentially useless. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved October 24, 1887, and the Act amendatory thereof, approved December 24, 1888, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year thereunder ending October 26, 1889. J.J. Snipes Sworn to and subscribed before me this the 5th day of April 1889. R.C. Meadows, N.P. & Ex off J.P. State of Georgia Schley County Personally came A. Allen, William Allen & T.J. Myers, citizens of Schley County, in said State, who, being duly sworn, say that they are acquainted with J.J. Snipes & were comrades of his and know that he received the wounds in the military service, as stated by him in foregoing affidavit; that said wounds permanently disables applicant, as stated by him; that said applicant is a bona fide citizen of this state, and resides in Schley county, and we are well satisfied that all the statements in this affiadavit are true. A. Allen William Allen T.J. Myers Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 5th day of April 1889 R.C. Meadows, N.P. & Ex off J.P. State of Georgia Schley County Personally comes before me T.B. Myers, Ordinary of said county, R.T. Bivins and J.N. Cheney, both known to me as reputable physicians of said county, who being severally sworn, say on oath that they have carefully examined J.J. Snipes and after such examination say that the applicant has been injured as follows: Shot by a minnie ball, said ball entering at the left shoulder fracturing the scapula bone and ranging through the shoulder & passed out in front of the shoulder, said ball fracturing the head of humerous which wound caused the contraction of the muscles so as to render said arm stiff and said wound has rendered said arm substantially & essentially useless. And R.T. Bivins further swears that he was with the said J.J. Snipes on the battlefield at the time applicant received the above described wound. R.T.Bivins, MD J.N.
