LETTER FROM PENSION OFFICE State of Georgia Pension Department Atlanta John W. Clark Commissioner of Pensions January 16, 1929 Hon. W.C. Stewart Ordinary of Schley County Ellaville, Ga. My Dear Judge: The application of Mrs. Mattie Strange for a pension in her own right as the widow of T.R. Strange, late pensioner of your county, has been received, but I note that it has been filed on the wrong blank. I am inclosing with this the proper blank on which Mrs. Strange should make her application, and request that you have her fill out the white blank without delay, and send it in. I will retain the marriage certificate to be attached to the white application when received. Wity (With) kind regards, Very truly yours, John W. Clark Commissioner of Pensions by Margaret W. Arnold, Clerk. (Handwritten across the bottom of this letter are these words.) Mrs. Mattie Strange has died since making application for pension. W.C. Stewart, Ordinary. (A copy of the marriage license is found in the file. It indicates that T.R. Strange and Miss Mattie Greene were united in the Holy State of Matrimony on the 22nd day of December 1878 by Rev. R.F. Williamson, M.G. Strangely enough this is a preprinted form type marriage license where certain blanks are to be filled in. The preprinted portion of the year in each case is 19__. The 19 is crossed out and replaced with a handwritten 18. One must concluded that the marriage certificate, number 598, was issued some good while after the marriage was performed.) Additional Comments: It would appear that Mrs. Mattie Strange died the day following her completing this application.
