Tatum, who being sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of Bernard tatum, who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company B, of the 17th Regiment of Ga. Volunteers; that he enlisted in said service on or about the 1st day of Sept. 1861, and was in the Virginia Army up to April 1865. That while in the Army, he was on the _____ day of _____ 1864. That while in the Confederate Army, state of Virginia around Richmond, while in battle, was taken prisoner & carried north & was not released nor exchanged & did not reach home until Sept. 1865, suffering from a severe attack of chronic dysentery, which disease he had suffered with for a long while & which he continued to suffer with to the day of his death which was May 1867. I positively know that he died of said disease, that he contracted in the army, he being a sound man at the time of entering the army & in perfect health. Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife on the ____ day of July 1851, and that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the 1st day of October 1831; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23d day of December 1890, and since said date she has not lived in any other state or locality. Deponent, as widow of said deceased soldier husband, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approved December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th, 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the allowance granted by said act. AFFIADAVIT FOR THREE WITNESSES State of Georgia County of Schley In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary, in and for said county, witnesses A.M. Caskey, J.J. Owens and J.M. Owens (each known to said attesting officer as truthful, reliable and reputable citizens), who severally say under oath, that, from their own personal knowledge, Mrs. Caroline E. Tatum, of the County of Schley, state of Georgia, is the widow of Bernard (C.)Tatum, who was a soldier in Company B of the 17th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers. That said soldier enlisted in the service of the Confederate States on or about the 1st day of Sept. 1861. That while in said service, or by reason of said service in the Army, he lost his life as follows: That while in the Confederate service & in battle around Richmond, Va., he was taken prisoner & carried north & not exchanged, but came home after the war in Sept. 1865. That long before he was taken prisoner he was suffering from chronic diarrhea & when he returned home was greatly ematiated from said disease & suffered from same up to the date of his death, which was May 1867. We were his comrades in war & and his near neighbors at home & believe & know that the disease was contracted in the service & positively believe that said disease was the immediate cause of his death, he never being able to work after the war. We further swear that Mrs. Caroline E. Tatum was the wife of said soldier during the service, and that she has not intermarried since his death, and that she resides in Schley County of the state of Georgia. A.M. Caskey J.J. Owen J.M.
