Thornton of Schley County, State of Georgia, who, being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said state, and has been such continuously since the 8th day of Nov. 1830; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States duringthe war between the States, and served as a private in Company A, of the 10th Regiment, Gen. Bullards, of _________ Volunteers, Wright's Brigade; that whilst engged in such military service, at the battle of around Petersberg in the state of Virginia, on the 22nd day of June 1864, he was wounded as follows: Through the back. The ball entering the right side & japing through the back bone causing the bones & juices of life to decay & came out on the opposite side. ??? sore(?) remained running 18 years & ????????? 36 specular of back bone causing ???? & has damaged applicants health & renders me practiacally incompentent to perform the ordinary normal qualities(?) of life. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved October 24, 1887, and the Act amendatory thereof, approved Dec. 24, 1888, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year ending Oct. 26, 1889. Meyers, Ordinary of said county, Dr. C.H. Smith and Dr. J.N. Cheney, both known to me as reputable physicians of said county, who, beindseverally sworn, say on oath that they have carefully examined J.M.Thornton and after such examination say that the applicant has been injured as follows: Shot through the shenius jrucefs(?) of the back bones, the ball entering the rightside & japing through said jurleins(?) of the back bone causing necrveis (?) & weakening applicant's back, said wound to our own knowledge only healed three years ago & the continued drained(?) on applicant's system & ??? of thirty six speculas of said vertebrae has ???? & permanently injured applicant in that he is practiaclly incompentent to perform the ordinary normal activities of life.
