There are however abbreviated versions that were used for subsequent year's filings and I will substitute the one for 1897 which was his second year. FOR APPLICANTS HERETOFORE ALLOWED PENSIONS State of Georgia Schley County Personally appears T. A. Wimbish, of Schley County, State of Georgia, who being duly sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said County and State, and has resided in said State continuously ever since the 15th day of December 1827; that he is 78 years old and by occupation a farmer; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and served for the term of 18 months in Company B of 27th Regiment of Georgia; that his physical condition is as follows: Badly ruptured, Cataer (?) in head, weak back & unable to do any kind of work whatever. That his property consists of the following items: No property of any kind of the value of ________ dollars, that by reason of his physical condition and poverty, he is unable to support himself by his own exertion or labor, and that he receives no pension but the one herein applied for. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved December 15th, 1894, and the acts amendatory thereof, and makes application for the pension to which he is entitled for the year 1897. I have heretofore as a resident of Schley County been allowed a pension for the year 1896. Thomas A. Wimbish Sworn to and subscribed before me, this, the 28th day of Dec. 1897. Phil E. Taylor, Ordinary. QUESTIONS FOR WITNESS State of Georgia Schley County. John T. Lumpkin, of said State and County, having been presented as a witness in support of the application of Thomas A. Wimbish fo pension under the Act approved December 15th, 1894, and after being duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? John T. Lumpkin, Ellaville, Ga. 2. Are you acquainted with Thomas A. Wimbish, the applicant, if so, how long have you known him? 50 years. 3. Where does he reside, and how long has he been a resident of this state? Resides in Schley Co., Ga. All his life. 4. Do you know of his having served in the Confederate army or the Georgia Militia? How do you know this? I saw him as a soldier in 27th Ga., Co. B, Bibbs Grays, Col. S.B. Smith's Regiment. 5. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist? Co. B, 27th Ga. Reg. 6. Were you a member of the same company and regiment? No. 7. How long did he perform regular military duty, and what do you know of his service as a Confederate soldier, and the time and circumstances of his discharge from the service? He was a member of said Co. to my knowledge for a year or more. Was enrolling officer & know he had a discharge from Co. Don't recollect date. 8. What property, effects or income has the applicant? Nothing that I know of. He has an invalid daughter that hasn't walked in 40 years. 9. What property, effects or income did the applicant possess in 1893 and 1894, and what disposition, if any, did make of same? Nothing. 10. What is the applicant's occupation and physical condition? Was a farmer when he could work. Now he unable to work any at all. 11. Is the applicant unable to support himself by labor of any sort, if so, why? No ??????? old & infirm & nearly blind. I know he is unable to work at any kind of labor. 12. How was he supported during the years 1893 and 1894? Friends. 13. What portion of his support for these two years was derived from his own labor or income? Nothing. 14. Give a full and complete statement of the applicant's physical condition that entitles him to a pension under the Act of December 15th 1894? Unable to work because he is ????? & has rheumatism & old & infirm. 15. What interest have you in the recovery of a pension by this applicant? None. J.T. Lumpkin Sworn to and subscribed before me, this the 30th day of Mar. 1895. AFFIDAVIT OF PHYSICIANS State of Georgia Schley County Personally came before me R.T. Bivins, MD and J.N. Cheney, MD, both known to me as reputable physicians of said county, who being severally sworn, say on oath that they have examined carefully Thomas A. Wimbish, applicant for pension under the Act of 1894, and after such personal examination, say that his precise physical condition is as follows: Ruptured on the left side, unable to get a truss that will benefit him, has ???? found hernia is very large & prevents his wlking any distance, rheumatic & is unable to do any manual labor. Almost blind. We further say on oath that the physical condition of applicant renders him unable to labor at any work or calling sufficient to earn a support for himself, and that we have no interest in said pension being allowed. R.T. Bivins, MD J.N. Cheney, MD Sworn to and subscribed before me, this the 30th day of Mar. 1895. Phil E. Taylor, Ordinary, SC Georgia Schley County Personally appeared before me L.W. Dixon & T.G. Hudson, who, being duly sworn says: They are personally acquainted with Thos. A. Wimbish, an applicant fro a pension under new law. He is an old man seventy seven years old & very feeble not being able to work any at all. Mr. Wimbish married Mrs. Walker about twenty years ago. Mr. Walker left an estate consisting of one hundred & seventy acres of very poor land. The same was bequested to Mrs. Wimbish nee Mrs. Walker & an afflicted daughter, Miss Effie Walker who still lives with her & is now 87 years old. Mr. Wimbish managed to make a living until he becme so aflicted about 3 years ago. The land rents for two bales of cotton--not eing enough to support the two old and cripple ladies. This place is the only means of support they have. Mr. Wimbish has a daughter with him & dependent upon him for support, a cripple who has not walked a step in 42 years.
