All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Harris Hill http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00011.html#0002514 December 9, 2003, 4:25 pm State of Georgia Schley County Personally appears William Allen of Schley county, State of Georgia, who, being sworn, says on oath that he is a bona fide citizen and resident of said state, and has been such continuously since the seventh day of May 1833; that he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate States during the war between the States, and served as a private in Company G, of 5th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, J.K. Jackson's Brigade; that whilst engaged in such military service, at the battle of Bentonville in the state of North Carolina, on the 18th day of March 1865, he was wounded as follows: shot by a cannon ball through the left thigh cutting all the muscles on the back & inside of the left thigh just half way between the knee & hip which wound caused sloughing & contracted the muscles in said thigh which wound often causes eryesipalas & which wound has rendered said leg substantially and essentially useless. Said cannon ball entered just in front on the inside of said thigh & passed diagonally through said thigh cutting through & coming out back side of said thigh. Deponent desires to participate in the benefits of the Act, approved October 24, 1887, and the Act amendatory thereof, approved Dec. 24, 1888, and makes application for the allowance to which he is entitled for the year ending Oct. 26, 1889. Myers, Ordinary of said county, R.T. Bivins and C.H. Smith, both known to me as reputable physicians of said county, who, being severally sworn, say on oath that they have examined William Allen and after such examination say that the applicant has been injured as follows: Shot by a cannon ball through the left thigh, the ball entering in the front and passing through on the inside of said thigh & coming out on the back side which wound has caused sloughing & all the muscles to contract which were not cut by the cannon ball in said thigh, said wound causing a wasting away of the flesh from said thigh and rendering said left leg substantially and essentially useless. Myers, Ordinary of said County, do certify that I am well acquainted with William Allen, the applicant in the foregoing affadavit, and am well satisfied that the statements made by him in his said affadavit are true, and that he is disabled to the extent he claims, and I know he is the individual he represents himself to be, and that he resides in this county. I also certify that the foregoing witnesses, to wit: (left blank) are persons of respectability, and that their statements are worthy of full credit and belief. I further certify that R.C.Meadows before whom the foregoing addidavits were made and power of attorney was signed, is a notary public & Ex off J.P. of said county, and that the said affidavits and signatures thereto are genuine.
