All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Harris Hill http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00011.html#0002514 August 30, 2005, 9:58 am Reynolds New Era October 1, 1930 AGED GEORGIANS HURT IN AUTO CRASH Two Men Arrested After Collision On Highway Near Ellaville Ellaville, Ga., Sept. 30.--Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gresham, each about 70 years of age, were badly hurt at 5 o'clock this afternoon when a light car in which they were riding was in a collision with a heavy car, about four miles north of here on the Columbus-Americus highway. Mrs. Gresham was thrown through a winsheild. She sustained a broken arm, two fractures of the leg and probable internal injuries. Mr. Gresham escaped with severe bruises. The Greshams were en route to their home at Putnam, after visiting in Ellaville. Mr. Gresham said that he saw a big car coming at high speed and pulled out of the road to give the other machine room to pass. The crash occurred and he claimed that the big car did not stop. Passersby picked up the injured couple and carried them to their homes. Doctors from this city were called to attend them. Sheriff Carl Rigsby telephoned to Albany to have the big car stopped and the men placed under arrest. The men were captured and will be brought back here tonight. Mr. Gresham is a retired section foreman of the Central of georgia railway, having served that company for many years. MEN ARRESTED DENY BLAME Albany, Ga.,--Holly Bryant and Carl Hill, both claiming to be dairymen of Tampa, Fla., were arrested here tonight as they arrived in a big car which figured in the accident at Ellaville, Ga. Bryant was driving the car. The men are about 25 years of age. To the Albany police who arrested them they said that the lighter car ran into them near Ellaville and as proof of this assertion they showed that the running board of the right side of their car was damaged. The men say that they stopped and did what they could for the aged couple and after friends arrived and carried them home they continued on their trip to Florida.
