Slappey, at Shellman, returned home last Thursday. Mr. Arthur Devane, who has been at home for the last two weeks on account of mumps, returned to the Agricultural College at Americus last Thursday. Miss Nettylee Williams, of Buena Vista, is the charming guest of her sister, Mrs. Dr. Jordan. Miss Myrtle Sanborn, of Americus, who has been the guest of Miss Lucille Lindsay, returned home Thursday. Miss Katie Will McNeal, of Buena Vista, is the charming guest of Miss Evelyn Stokes. Mr. Adolphus Battle, of Talbotton, visited relatives here last week. Prof. and Mrs. H.I. Pool have gone to Richland, where Prof. Pool has accepted a position. Messrs. H. Willis Hogg and Harry F. Dixon took an automobile spin down to Americus Friday returning on the 3:30 train. Mr. T.T. Ragland, of Talbotton, was a visitor here this week. Miss Belle Berry, of Bronwood, is the guest of Mrs. T.V. Bridges. Mr. S.N. Callier, of Thomaston, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Strange. Miss Berner Green, of Americus, came up Friday to be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Woods. Mrs. T.J. Livingston and Mrs. S.B. Fulford, who have been visiting relatives in Columbus, returned home Sunday. You can talk about your floods but we had one of them Saturday night. The rain fell in torrents. It was impossible to run street cars Sunday, so the people had to go to church in boats. It is hoped that cars will be able to run Monday and all business resumed. Mr. E.R. Jordan went up to Buena Vista Sunday. Miss Maggie Buckhannen, of Americus, was the guest of Mrs. C.B. Johnson this week. Mrs. R.S. Greene, of Albany, is visiting parents at Andrew Chapel this week. Dr. H. Peacock, of Opelika, was with his sister, Mrs. J.C. Rainey, last week. Miss Smith, of Talbotton, spent last week with Mrs. A.S. Bangle. Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Strange, of Doerun, attended the funeral of their grandmother, Mrs. Strange, here last Thursday. Mr. G.W. Burts, the Buena Vista cotton buyer, returned home Saturday. Prof. S.D. Rickenbaker and wife were in Americus Saturday. Mrs. R.M. Murphey is visiting her sister, Mrs. J.D. McFail, of Columbus. Col. J.H. Cheney was in Oglethorpe Tuesday. Mrs. S.C. Collins went down to Americus Sunday to be the guest of relatives. Col. and Mrs. J.R. Williams, of Americus, were in Ellaville Wednesday the guest of friends. Col. C.R. McCrory, W.C. Stewart, E.B. Barrow and J.H. Sellars attended court at Buena Vista Tuesday. Mrs. W.H. Collins is the guest of her mother, Mrs. R.F. Tison, of Buena Vista. Miss Lucile Lindsay is the guest of Mrs. H.D. Chapman, of Macon. Mrs. C.A. Norton and Mrs. J.N. Hudson were delegates to the Women’s Foreign Mission at Macon Friday. Miss Mamie Freeman was the guest of Columbus friends this week. Duncan, returned home Saturday. Col. A.J. Walters made a business trip to Columbus Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. W.Z. Burt, of Buena Vista, spent Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Burt. Mrs. Fannie Cheney and little son, Joseph, left for Atlanta Wednesday, where they will be the guests of relatives. Hon. Dudley M. Hughes, candidate for Congress, was in Ellaville last week shaking hands with his many friends. Miss Luella Woods, of Rochelle, has accepted the position of primary teacher here. She has many friends here who will welcome her back. Mr. C.C. McCrary left Saturday for Macon, where he will be the guest of his sister, Miss Anna Bell McCrary. Miss Lillie Shirley, who has been the guest of her aunt, Mrs. J.F. Woods, returned to her home in White Oak, Ala., Saturday. Miss Shirley made many friends here who regretted very much to see her leave. Mr. and Mrs. Walter McCook and Miss Carrie Lou McCook, of Columbus, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Williams on Sunday. Mr. Preston McCrary, of Columbus, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C.R. McCrary Sunday. Miss Ruth Wall, of Americus, spent Saturday and Sunday with parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Wall. The concert given at the auditorium on last Friday night was indeed a success and was enjoyed by large and appreciative audience. Mr. PZ. Arrington was in Americus Wednesday. Rev. C.D. Carter, who has been attending the Theological Baptist Seminary at Louisville, Ky., returned home last week. Mr. R.E.L. Eason left Monday for Savannah to attend the Grand Lodge K. of P. Rev. J.M. Murray has been over in Alabama the last two weeks. The Marion County Patriot, No. 4 Friday, February 5, 1909 Page Three Latest News From Ellaville On January 26th last, Dr. Johnson P.E. held the first quarterly conference of our district here. He preached to a large and attentive audience in the forenoon. Conference was held in the afternoon and aside from the regular work they raised the salary of the preacher in charge from $800 to $935. Rev. C.A. Norton entertained the stalwarts of his different churches on the 26th inst., by giving them a turkey and oyster dinner. The entertaining feature at the Auditorium on last Thursday evening was a lecture by Rev. C.A. Norton, on The Great Work of the McAnley’s Mission of New York, illustrated by the use of the stereoptican. Mr. P.A. Wimbush has been on the sick list for several days, but we are glad to say that he is on the mend and will soon be able to be out with his friends again. Miss Susie Beckham returned last Saturday afternoon from Zebulon, Ga. where she attended the wedding of her sister. Mrs. Dr. C.H. Smith has gone to New Smyrna, Fla. with her daughter, Mrs. Edwards where she will spend the winter. Rev. C.A. Norton is entertaining at the parsonage this week, his father, Mr. J.A. Norton, of Lythonia, Ga. Miss Louella Woods is to be united in marriage to Mr. Clark Dozier, of Rochelle, on next Wednesday evening. Idus McKellar, of Bakerton, was in the city several days last week. Mrs. Mauk, of Americus, attended the Woods-Doster wedding here Wednesday. Mrs. Harry Dixon, Mrs. J.R. Jordan, Mrs. Roger Williams were in Buena Vista one day last week. LeRoy Hirshburg, Jr., of Buena Vista, was in the city Saturday. Mrs. J.C. Rainey has returned home from Texas after a visit with relatives for some weeks. Mrs. Ralph Stewart is visiting friends here for several days. Mrs. Lillian Jones, of Butler, has been the guest of Mrs. A.C. Murray for the past several days. Mr. Seab Williams, who is employed by the Ellaville Guano Co., spent Sunday in Buena Vista. Mr. Davis and family have moved from Americus to the Smith home here. Hon. J.R. Williams, of Americus, was in town last week on business. Rev. I.E. McKellar, of Baconton, conducted prayer services at the Methodist church on the evening of the 3rd. Rev. C.A. Norton gave the people of Glen Holly a lecture on “The Shadows of a Great City” illustrated by the use of the stereoptican on last Tuesday evening. Mr. Hoyte Murphy was visiting his father, Mr. R.M. Murphy, and other friends here last week. Mr. R.E.L. Eason and daughter, Miss Flossie, went to Americus last week. Rev. H.F. Oliver and wife, of Buena Vista, were visiting friends here last week. Mr. Oscar Larkin was in the city Friday, buying supplies for his store at Lowe. Mr. Clyde Hill was absent from school last Friday and Monday on account of a severe cold, however we hope he will soon be out again. Rev. C.A. Norton has placed at the City Drug Store numbering between fifty and sixty volumes for rent or sale. Among the titles are, Side Talks With Girls, Right of Women, Girl of Ideas, Red Rock, Gordon Keith, Daniel Derondo, Bread in the Bone, The Five Talents of Women, Ask Mamma, Wonders of Man and Nature, St. Paul’s Conception of Christianity, Put Yourself in His Place, and a great many others that are equally as good. Miss Ella Bivins was the charming guest of the Misses Reid last Saturday and Sunday, in whose honor they gave an entertainment Saturday evening, among the guests were Misses Nell Lumpkin, Mae Lucas, Lila King, Messrs. Joel King, Clarence Bentley, Tucker Rainey, Perry Wimbish, Carl Pilcher, Plen Johnson, Essie Beckwith, Grady Wimbish, Robert Stewart, Walter Heath and Jim Mat McLendon. All seemed to enjoy the evening very much. Miss Nell Lumpkin was the charming guest of Miss May Lucas last Sunday. Miss Minnie Jones was the teacher of the Ebenezer school last week, as Miss Maggie Williams, their regular teacher, was on the sick list.
