Hill, only daughter of Elbert and C.E. Hill, of Schley county, died of typhoid fever on October 30th. Many relatives and friends were present to witness her lamented death. Katie was loved and esteemed for her kindness; affectionate to her parents, kind and loving to her brothers and charitable to everyone she met. She survived her elder sister one year and 18 days, leaving her father, mother and three brothers. Being a member of the Methodist Church, she led a Christian life, crowned with virtue and truth, while her death has cast a cloud of sadness over the whole community, we feel that he who gave has the right to take away, and while we sympathize with the bereaved family we feel sure that she has received a rich inheritance beyond the skies. Katie, we will ever miss thee, In our pilgrimage here below, But we trust again to meet you On that fair eternal shore. A friend. --------------- Excerpted from: Schley County News Vol. XV, No. 9 Thursday, February 23, 1905 In Memoriam On Friday morning February 17, this community was shocked at the sad news of the death of our fellow citizen, Elbert Hill. Having been in poor health for a few weeks, only a few of his friends, outside immediate family, suspected that death was near. Mr. Hill was about sixty years of age; was married in the year 1859, and leaves a wife and two children, three grandchildren, and a host of friends to morn the loss. He joined the Methodist Church in 1870; was made a mason in 1861, and since that time has been a consistent member of the church as well as a devoted Mason. But few men of a more generous nature, have we ever known; warm hearted and charitable to all with whom he came in contact. We render his family our deepest sympathy in this hour of great sorrow and distress; feeling that their loss is his gain, knowing that death is God's messenger to transplant him from physical to spiritual home, to open to him the glory of the New Jerusalem and to introduce him into the society of the blessed, there to dwell forever.---------- ---------------- Vol. XV, No. 45 Thursday, Nov. 2, 1905 Schley County News The personal property of Mr. Elbert Hill will be sold Saturday, the 4th, at the residence of Mr. E. The All Wise One has seen fit to call to her reward, one of the most loved and estimable ladies of our town, a woman none knew but they loved her. Mrs. Hill was a most devout Christian and had been a member of the Methodist Church for over 50 years. She had reached the ripe old age of 78 after living a life filled with many good and meritorious deeds. Always lending a helping hand when one was needed and possessing many other lovable traits. Our town has indeed sustained a loss in the death of Mrs. Hill, a loss that time only, can alleviate but not erase. To the inconsolable relatives and friends we offer our heartfelt sympathy to you in your trying hour but none can do more than say "Thy will, O Lord, be done, not ours for thou knowest best thy work." The funeral was conducted with impressive ceremony, Sunday at 11 o'clock amidst a host of sorrowing relatives and friends who had assembled together to pay a last tribute to their loved one whose spirit rests peaceably with it's maker. ------------------ The Ellaville Sun Vol.III, No. 4 Friday July 21, 1939 from page 1.
