AMERICUS,Ga., Jan. 6.--Forty thousand dollars of notes and valuable securities belonging to the Bank of Ellaville, which is owned by the Bank of Southwestern Georgia, located in Americus, were found this afternoon carefully concealed in the boxing about the Ellaville court house. When Cashier Walters, of the Ellaville Bank, committed suicide by shooting himself in Americus a year and a half ago, most of the bank papers were found to be missing. Every effort made to discover the missing documents proved fruitless. The Schley county court house was thoroughly searched, as the dead cashier frequented one of the offices there, but without effect. Twenty-five thousand dollars of the missing notes were paid by the makers voluntarily, following the death of Cashier Walters, and the remaing $15,000 will now be collectible with the lost notes recovered. Two citizens of Ellaville, Representative Charles R. McCrory and James Robinson, came upon the papers by accident this afternoon. Five hundred dollars reward offered by the Americus Bank for recovery of all the missing notes is still outstanding. The suspect? of concealment of the bank's papers in the court house remains a mystery. The bank was in nowise embarassed by the loss. The Savannah Tribune January 15, 1910 REMARKABLE COINCIDENCE Ellaville Man Has Dream, He Was Paid $500 For It. Americus, Ga.---A remarkable coincidence connected with the discovery of $40,000 of valuable notes belonging to the Ellaville Bank, all found concealed in the attic of the court house, is that the hiding place according to report, was revealed by a dream to the gentleman making the discovery. So strongly impressed was he with the incident in connection with our circumstances, particularly the suspicious lurking of a negro in the court house, that he investigated and found the notes lost eighteen months ago. The reward of $500 was promptly paid by the bank.
