There were about 150 veterans who moved in military style from the courthouse, headed by the Eclipse band, to the beautiful grove in the southern portion of the town near the Methodist church. The veterans were drilled for several hours, afterwards forming a line. There was an old time handshaking. Dinner was then announced and all partook of the good things prepared by the ladies. About fifty barbecued carcasses were served in the afternoon. The veterans could be seen gathered in groups talking of the past. The King's Daughters, of Ellaville, sold ice cream for the benefit of the soldier's monument fund. They realized quite a nice little sum. The Eclipse band, of Ellaville, furnished music for the occasion. A concert was given in the park during the afternoon for the amusement of the young people and all enjoyed the occasion. The day was in charge of Captain Burton and Commander J.N. Cheney, and they should be congratulated upon their success.
