SMITH MISSING; FRIENDS ARE ANXIOUS Schley Tax Collector Left Wife Note Saying He Intended To Kill Self Ellaville, the county seat of Schley county, is agitated over the strange disappearance of J.B. Smith, one of the town's best known citizens and tax collector for Schley county. He left the town secretly Wednesday afternoon, leaving a note to his wife in which he announced that he intended committing suicide because of despondency and ill-health, and that his body would never be found. He was traced to Atlanta, where he registered at the Terminal hotel Thursday morning, checking out that night. No further track of him can be found. Relatives and friends have appealed to the police of Atlanta, and detectives have been assigned to the case. The missing man was one of the community's most respected men. He had been a figure in politics for years, and had held office of tax collector for three years. He is 40 years of age, clean shaven, dark haired, gray eyes and six feet tall. The left hand is missing at the wrist. He wore nose glasses. Additional Comments: I have nothing on J.B. Smith, but would like to know more.
