Hoke Smith will deliver the literary address at the commencement exercises of the CFC Institute at Ellaville on May 31st at 10:30 o’clock. This news will be received with pleasure by Mr. Smith’s host of friends in Ellaville and Schley County. There’s going to be a good time in store for everyone who comes to Ellaville and attends the rally to be given by the Farmers Union of Schley County on Thursday, 13th, and you will miss a treat if you fail to be here on this date. Crisp Institute Monday afternoon teachers for all the departments except the principalship were elected. The election for principal was deferred until a later day. Miss Jessie Jamerson was elected primary teacher. Miss Willie Mitcham* was reelected as intermediate teacher. Miss Beryl Jones was elected as music teacher to succeed Miss Susie Beckham. *Transcribers note - in the next issue the last name is listed as Mitchem. The Butler Herald Tuesday, May 23, 1911 Page Three Neighboring County Items Schley County News The Farmers’ Union dinner at Ellaville Saturday May 13th was a big success. Large crowd in attendance coming from three counties, and several interesting speeches were made. At a meeting of the board of trustees of the Chas. F. Crisp Institute Monday Prof. Bryant, now principal of the school at Dooling, was elected principal of the school here for the next scholastic year. Other teachers elected were: Miss Jessie Jamerson, primary department; Miss Willie Mitchem, intermediate department. The old railroad depot, for many years an eyesore, has been removed and a modern depot in keeping with the progressive spirit of Ellaville has been completed and will henceforth be used for the accommodation of the public. Not to be outdone by our suburb Americus, Ellaville has now a full fledged fishing club, twenty-five of our foremost citizens having purchased the fishing privileges of Dozier’s mill pond from J.C. Rainey, the present owner. At a meeting of the club Monday night Mr. H.J. Williams was elected president, J.H. Cheney, secretary and E.S. Hart, treasurer. Suitable bylaws were drawn up and subscribed to, and it is without saying that all of the clubs, societies, etc., this is the most popular. The Butler Herald Tuesday, June 13, 1911 Page Four Neighboring County Items Schley County News A Farmers’ Institute will be held in Ellaville Friday June 30th. Every farmer in the county is invited. The afternoon session will be devoted to an address by Commissioner T.G. Hudson, subject, “The Problem of the Farmer.” Mr. Jack Wall, a highly respected citizen of this county, died at his home last Friday and was buried Saturday at Hopewell, Rev. M.F. Williams officiating. He is survived by three sons and two brothers. Prof. Bryant who was elected at principal of the Chas. F. Crisp Institute for the 1911-12 term a few days ago, has recently sent his resignation and has accepted the principalship of the Senoia school we understand. Miss Willie Mitchem, who was reelected intermediate teacher has tendered her resignation and has accepted the music class at Buena Vista. Bowman, principal of the school at Sylvania was elected principal of the C.F.C.I. for the term 1911-1912. Mr. Bowman’s sister was elected primary teacher, and they are both highly recommended as competent teachers. Mr. John Royal left Monday for Atlanta to assume his duties as representative for Schley.
