Mr. L. Hill raised last year on thirteen acres of land ten bales of cotton each weighing over 500 pounds. He has ten acres of the same land planted in cotton this year and expects to make a bale per acre. Mr. J.T. Collins has a patch of two acres planted in corn which will make 40 or 50 bushels per acre. He is contending for the premium offered by the alliance No. 7 for the largest yield per acre. He stands a good showing to win the prize. Protracted meetings are now the order of the day. Rev. C.D. Adams has been carrying on a meeting at Hopewell which resulted in much good. Rev. Mr. Tidwell, pastor of Concord church, has been protracting a meeting at Prospect church. Rev. Mr. Bray, an over the creek man, has been preaching for the people of Wigginsville. An entertainment was given the young people of this community last Friday night by the Misses Patton. Misses Edwards and Hally, who were visiting the Misses Patton at the time, furnished some nice music for the occasion. All seemed to enjoy the entertainment and regretted for the time to come when they had to leave. Dr. Murray, who has been practicing medicine in this community for a number of years, has moved to Tazewell to take the place of Dr. Edwards. The doctor is much liked by the people here and they seem to regret that he moved. May he be as successful in the future as in the past. Mr. Rufus Murray and sister, who have been visiting relatives and friends, have returned to their home in Macon county. Mr. Howard Rodgers, after making us a short visit, returned to his home at Garden Valley. Mr. Shealy, of Macon county, is visiting friends here this week. From the looks of his team we had almost decided that he would carry somebody back home with him. “AJAX” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/schley/newspapers/nw1688schleyco.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
