Ellaville, Ga., July 10, Hon. J.M. DuPree, senator, and Hon. A.C. Muray, representatives Schley county: Schley county mass meeting held the 8th ultmo, July, 1889, the citizens of Schley county met at the court house in Ellaville. Upon motion R.D. McLeod was called to the chair, and W.S.(H?) McCrory was requested to act as secretary. Dr. J.C. (N?) Cheney explained the object of the meeting, when the following resolution was introduced and unanimously passed: We are informed that a bill has been presented to the present general assembly to repeal the charter of the Savannah and Western railroad. Upon this information a meeting of the citizens of Schley county was called and the following resolution was unanimously passed: Whereas, We have learned that a bill has been introduced in the present general assembly repealing the charter of the Savannah and Western railroad, we, the undersigned citizens of Schley county, this day assembled, do hereby respectfully urge you both to use all honorable means in your power to defeat the passage of such a bill, and also the passage of the bill known as the Olive bill. We want the building of railroads in our great state encouraged and the good work to go on until everybody in the state shall have all the railway advantages they want. We have thouroughly investigated the Olive bill, and are satisfied that its passage would be detrimental to the building of railroads and the interest of the public at large. Upon motion, the secretary was instructed to furnish the Schley County News, Atlanta Constitution, Macon Telegraph, Columbus Enquirer-Sun with copies of this action. Upon motion, the meeting was adjourned. W.H.
