One of the most appreciated visitors Ellaville has had the honor of entertaing in many years is Mr. Calvin Rentz, now of Bamburg, S.C. Mr. Rentz is known and held in high esteem by all who knew him when he was a resident of this county before the war. He enlisted from Ellaville in the 5th Georgia, Company B (actually G), at the beginning and served four long years in the defense of the South. Among his comrades were T.J. Hixon, T.H. Devane, Wm. Allen, A. Allen and many others, all of whom are extending to him a glad welcome. Mr. Rentz, in early life was a carpenter by trade, and had the contract for the building of many old houses in Ellaville, the old Methodist church as well as the present Baptist church being among the number. At the age of seventy-five, he is hail and hearty, and says that he believes he can whip any Yankee north of the Mason-Dixie (Dixon) line. Additional Comments: Calvin Rentz was born 7 Nov. 1835 in Barnwell Co., S.C. and died 12 Oct 1925 in Colston community in Bamburg Co., S.C.
