The Atlanta Constitution  January 4, 1889.

ELLAVILLE, GA.

Ellaville, January 3.--(Special.)--The election passed off quietly,
though there was hot work for the candidates.  The following candidate
were elected:  William Allen, sheriff; T.B. Myers, ordinary; J.N. 
Cheney, clerk; R.M. Murphy, tax collector; J.N. Acre, tax receiver; 
Jerry Dukes, coroner, Robert Patton, W.D. Murray, R.H. Slappy, A.M. 
Caskey and D.W. Raines, county commissioners.  The close race was 
between J.N. Cheney, the present clerk, and W.D. Sears, who was defeated
by 77 majority.
