Mott, Oglethorpe highway only yards away from the Macon County line, is said to be a century old and has an intriguing history. The structure was erected at Lanier, first county seat of Macon county soon after the county was formed in 1837. When the seat of government was moved to Oglethorpe in 1854, the building was purchased by Joseph Mott and moved to its present site with slave labor, employing ox-carts. For many years after the move, the home was overnight stop for the stagecoach line on route to points in south Georgia and Tallahassee, Fla.
