Williams Dr. and Mrs. W.D. Sears celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Friday, April 2, at their home here. This venerable couple both were born and reared in Schley county, and are now living in the home into which they moved when they were first married. Time has dealt kindly with Dr. and Mrs. Sears. With the alacrity of people much younger, Dr. Sears being 87, and Mrs. Sears having passed her 81st birthday, they go about their daily duties, happy in the thought that each has been spared for the other during their many years of wedded life. Dr. Sears hobby is playing Chinese checkers. Each night except Sunday, friends gather around the family fireside, and enjoy the doctor’s favorite pastime with him. Mrs. Sears delights in raising chickens and vegetables. Her hobby is crocheting centerpanes and luncheon sets for her three charming daughters and her grandchildren. Recently Mrs. Sears’ widowed daughter, Mrs. Bessie Lou Lightner, and a roomer, Mrs. Carrie Hill, were ill at the same time. Mrs. Sears not only did the cooking for members of her family and Mrs. Hill, but also found time to minister in other ways to their comfort. Last fall Mrs. Sears made four dresses for herself that would have done credit to the best dressmaker in town. Dr. and Mrs. Sears are regular attendants at all church services. For faithfulness to his church, Dr. Sears was awarded a silver loving cup on his eightieth birthday. During their long residence in Ellaville, they have exerted an influence for good that will be everlasting, by their kindly deeds, their devotion to duty, their cheerful outlook on life and the Christian spirit they at all times manifest towards their friends and neighbors. Dr. and Mrs. Sears have been married longer than any couple residing in Schley county. Their children are: Mrs. B.T. Rainey, Buena Vista; Mrs. Bessie Lou Lightner, Ellaville; Mrs. Ruth Head, Evansville, Indiana.
