The first issue appeared July 2, 1937. The publication's editorial and advertising staff probably is the youngest, from the standpoint of age, in the state. Raymond Duncan, owner and editor, is 22 and Charles Wall, Jr., who became the local advertising manager in February, is 19. A.J. Harp brought out Schley County's first newspaper, The Enterprise, on September 26, 1885, using hand-set type and a hand press which were temporarily housed in the old court house building. (A page of this edition is reproduced elsewhere in today's issue.) The Enterprise was succeeded in later years by The Schley County News. Editors who followed Mr. Harp, according to the best information available were Dan McLeod, Mr. Trice, Miss Mary Hornady, R.E. Elliot (paper then owned by the late T.A. Collins), Will Jones, Chester C. McCrory, who is editor and publisher of The Twiggs County New Era at Jeffersonville, published The News for a time after Mr. Moulton sold the paper in 1935. Since that time The News has been published from Talbotton by the Taylor Publishing Company.
