R.S. ALLEN, 61, DIES SUDDENLY
Funeral Held Wednesday For Prominent Farmer
Funeral services for Robert S. Allen, 61, prominent Schley county farmer 
residing in Fellowship community, who died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, were 
conducted from the Methodist church here Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Mr. Allen suffered a heart attack while visiting a negro tenant who lived 
several miles away.  He was quickly placed in a wagon upon his request, and 
fell backward dead.

A native of Schley county, Mr. Allen had made his home in the county 
throughout his life and was widely known as an influential citizen.  He would 
have reached his 61st birthday January 27.

Mr. Allen married Miss Abbie Holloway December 20, 1899.  He was a member of 
Corinth Methodist church.

His pastor, the Rev. W.W. Whaley of Oglethorpe officiated at the funeral and 
was assisted by the Rev. W.S. Johnson of Ellaville.  Burial was in Ellaville 
cemetery.

Surviving besides his widow are seven daughters, Mrs. H.B. Williams, Mrs. 
Charles C. Hines, and Miss McLain Allen, all of Americus; Mrs. Dan Wells, 
Buena Vista; Mrs. Marvin Robinson and Mrs. T.M. Etheridge, both of Oglethorpe, 
and Miss Mozelle Allen, of Ellaville; two sons, Ossie Allen and Ralph Allen 
both of Ellaville and six grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were five sons-in-law:  H.B. Williams, C.C. Hines, Dan 
Wells, J.M. Robinson, T.M. Etheridge, and a nephew, Howard Green.

Honorary pallbearers were W.P. Causey, W.J. Smith, J.E., R.L. and E.R. 
Robinson and W.L. Lumpkin.
