COOK, SCHLEY PIONEER, DIES AT 84 Funeral services were held at Ellaville Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for Jackson Marion (Jack) Cook, 84, well-known Schley county farmer, who died here Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lucy Dyess, after a 10-month's illness, the first of his life that kept him abed. The Rev. Roy J. Bond officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Hugh Dozier. Burial was in Ellaville cemetery. Born near Fairburn, Ga., October 23, 1856, he joined his family as a lad of eight years in fleeing to Sumter county during the Battle of Atlanta in July, 1864. He was fond of recalling hearing the guns thunder and seeing the refugees pass his home. He married Miss Anna Bridges 53 years ago (19 June 1887, Schley Co.) and they made their home in Friendship community of Sumter county until moving to Concord community of Schley county, 28 years ago. A Methodist, he was a steward of Concord church for 28 years. Surviving besides his widow, are five children, Mrs. Lucy Dyess, Ellaville, Arthur Cook, Schley county; Stewart Cook, Americus; Mrs. C.L. Harbuck, Sumter county, and Mrs. J.W. Hanner, Tifton; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Davis, Dawson, and Mrs. Ruby Ratley, Americus; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Lewis Dyess, Felton Harbuck, Clyde Watts, Harvey Harbuck, Thomas Suggs and David McMickle.
