DEVANE DIES UNEXPECTEDLY MONDAY Funeral services were held at Hopewell Methodist church Wednesday afternoon for M.F. DeVane, 67, well-known Schley county farmer who died suddenly here Monday night about 11 o'clock while waiting at the railroad station to accompany his wife to the bedside of their daughter, who was ill in Jacksonville, Fla. Having already purchased tickets, the couple was sitting in the car with their son, H.D. DeVane, when Mr. DeVane was seized. He died before medical aid could be summoned. Mr. DeVane apparently had been in good health and had gone fishing during the afternoon. The Rev. Roy J. Bond conducted the funeral and was assisted by the Rev. Hugh Dozier. Burial was in the church cemetery. Born in Schley county, April 11, 1874, he was the son of the late Frank and Polly Wall DeVane and had lived his entire life in the county. In early youth he united with Hopewell Methodist church. Having always lived a quiet and peaceful life, Mr. DeVane was loved and admired by all who knew him. Surviving besides his widow, the former Miss Mary Ella Poole, whom he married December 2, 1900, are two daughters, Mrs. W.H. Oliver, Ellaville, and Mrs. Felton Bray, St. Augustine, Fla., three sons, H.D. DeVane, Ellaville, and E.W. and Lester DeVane, both of St. Augustine; 14 grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, besides a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were T.H. Stevens, W.T. Tondee, Ben S. Sellars, C.S. Wall, C.C. Williamson and Roy McCorkle.
