CONCORD HAPPENINGS
One of the saddest shocks our community has ever known, occurred Sunday 
afternoon about six o'clock, when Arthur, the only son of Frank Dillard, died 
suddenly of heart failure.  He and his pretty young wife had just returned 
from her parents, finished supper, and were sitting around the fireside with 
his father, planning the week's work, when the silent messenger, death, 
appeared, lingering but a moment, and then snatching away "The Bud of Promise" 
from the family circle.  Mr. Dillard was a young man of fine moral integrity, 
and was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends throughout the community.  
He was married last January to Miss Carrie Wall, of Tazewell, and their life 
together was a perfect union of devotion.  His departure to the Life Beyond 
has saddened his loved ones more than words can tell.  We, with our partial 
eye cannot see why the All Wise One should chasten his children this way, but 
we know the workings of Providence are not to be questioned for "God moves in 
mysterious ways His wonders to perform."  May the great healing balm of His 
grace soothe the broken hearts of the devoted father and loving young wife, 
and may the going away of their son and husband be a beacon light to draw them 
into a richer and closer communion with their savior, the burden bearer and 
comforter of all who trust him; is the prayer of the writer.  The bereaved 
ones have the heartfelt sympathy of many relatives and friends.
